Developer Seeks Change To Westhampton Beach Zoning Code To Allow For New Supermarket

Sounds like WHB really has a firm grip on zoning. Of course this is the same group that stopped the North Mall from sprucing up and adding a second floor. And this is the same group that allowed a restaurant to be built over a car dealership. Nothing says romantic dinner like 10W40.

BTW that Self-Storage site is ugly. Looks like army barracks" Jan 9, 12 10:43 PM

Really?

This guy fronted all the money and had his capital tied up in the venture. The risk and subsequent reward are his. Would the managers employees also share equally in lawsuits? I don't think so. MacPherson Gets 4 To 12 Years For Role In Mortgage Fraud Case

Can someone closer explain the numbers better? Per the above it is an $82MM fraud of which $44MM must be paid back in restitution. How many homes were involved? Is the sum of the mortgages $82MM? Surely they did not qualify for multiple mortgages with no money down at all? What is the magnitude of that cash? Is there P&I insurance? Were other properties put up as collateral? Still you have to come to the table with cash.

And for the record, while the mortgages may be in default, the bank now owns the property. Implicit in the mortgage is the value of the property, albeit perhaps not 100%. To keep the property and get paid back in full is in my mind a "double dip"

While fraud is certainly wrong there is also an element of due diligence. Is there an appraisal? Survey? lien search? Title search (though the fraud was apparently here), is there money in the bank? Capacity to pay the mortgage? In some respects shame on the bank for getting duped up multiple times.

It may be fraud but details have been lacking in this story since inception" Feb 28, 12 8:54 AM

Westhampton Beach Village Might Crack Down On Garbage Bandits

Please stop commenting. You are making other trolls look smart.
1. It is not theft of services. That would only apply if you were in the garbage hauling business.
2. As for the woman who dropped garbage out the window I presume that hit the ground and not the bottom of a DPW trashcan. The article is about throwing household garbage into public trashcans, not littering.
3. The article clearly notes that this is happening in the winter time (and presumable summer) and is not solely related to "weekenders". " Mar 1, 12 12:11 PM

Westhampton Beach Village Might Crack Down On Garbage Bandits

Why so you can throw your garbage in my unwatched trash cans?" Mar 2, 12 4:05 PM

Does anyone actually read the article before they type?

The article is more about changing a law than it is being punitive. Lest we forget it's a good thing that people are throwing trash into the proper receptacle. Heck if they didn't it sounds like we'd end up like North Sea.

Now how the heck would I ever know if a drunk driver has a license registration and insurance? Your post implies it's much better to get hit by a drunken ol' fart who has a lots of insurance and is properly licensed. Maybe it's me but it hurts to get hit no matter who is driving." Mar 8, 12 11:14 PM

You can explain insurance only if you think it'll help you figure out it has nothing to do with the article above. Do I need to explain "Facetious?"

Westhampton Beach Village Might Crack Down On Garbage Bandits

You Sir are right! It is off topic to the article but you are most certainly right. They just posted pics of trash at the North Sea beach and I can only say that it is heinous that people would ever do that. It looks like a mess from an after prom. It is also a sad state of affairs that a local resident has to address the mess." Mar 11, 12 10:59 PM

Westhampton Beach Village Unveils $9.5 Million Draft Budget

Caps are hard to deal with. Looking at it very simply an employee may get a COLA increase of 3-4%. Some employees are governed by a contract and the contract determines the % increase. Couple that with a rise in fuel prices (gas,#2, #6) and you realize one of three things:

1. It is impossible to hold to a 2% increase when other things are increasing by a greater %
2. Increases are necessary
3. If increases are not necessary and you are increasing by a rate greater then 2% then there is serious pork in the budget." Mar 15, 12 10:53 PM

Given the scenario the three points are three possible scenarios. If you hold a cap increase at 2% and your expenses grow at a greater rate, all things being equal you eventually run a deficit. IF your expenses increase and you want to have a balanced budget or zero sum budget, your revenue must increase by roughly the same %. Lastly if you think you can have expenses increase without increasing revenue than other expenses must decrease...there is your 'pork' for lack of a better term.

BTW your notion that 'we'll run out of money" is actually not gross hyperbole. These are very real issues to those on fixed incomes. " Mar 19, 12 12:45 PM

Beach Bakery Could Lose Outdoor Dining Permit

Westhampton is a dead town. On a rainy day in the summer the crowds flock to Tanger and E Hampton...not Westhampton. From my outside perspective WHB does very little to encourage businesses.

Sayitaint so joe got it right....it's dead in the winter
Sug tonmi got it wrong....these businesses aren't even contiguous. They are all fine places but they are places of convenience not dttstination spots.
The Good Life got it right...what WHB needs is destination outdoor dining/drinking. main street whould be alive and vibrant. There are a few places (not overly vibrant) and the WHBPAC should be a real anchor.
Wake up WHB!" Apr 18, 12 9:57 AM
