Store Clerk Charged With Selling Alcohol To Minor In Westhampton Beach

it wasn't local it was state.

" Oct 24, 13 9:44 PM

Funny that the 9 others targeted were in compliance but the article reads how one is not following the law.

Also, I've been in that wine store. There are no fine wines in there! Conversely if they had gone let's say to Six Corners and purchased a nice Montrachet would it be a crime to be so cosmopolitan. No bag wine there!" Oct 24, 13 9:47 PM

Westhampton Beach Village Allows Vehicles To Access Beach

Seriously tire ruts? Again, if you read the article and I mean really read it, it speaks about fishermen. I am NOT a professional fisherman or even an avid enthusiast but my recollection is most fishermen tend to catch the fall migration or spring seasons. Mid summer fishing is not a big thing here.

So try again as to why this is the most godawful thing. Hey I'll help. In NJ a guy got run over. Well that was an inattentive cop who refused a breathalyzer. Not a fisherman. Air pollution. No worse than anywhere else. oil dripping...happens anyway and sewer drains lead to the bay already. So what weak argument will you settle for?" Oct 25, 13 2:44 PM

Westhampton Beach Middle School Gym Teacher Pleads Guilty To Filming Girls In Locker Room

Did you read the article? Try it again. The article is at odds with practical law. He hopes for probation. He pleads guilty! The prosecutor wants the max. None of this makes sense at all. Again, why plead guilty w/o a deal in place (no mention of that now is there)? If the prosecutor id going for the max he should have had his case tried. He's have no downside." Oct 26, 13 10:46 AM

I asked the legal question because I am not a legal scholar at all.
I am in all honesty an English major (as well as two other degrees)...but no law." Oct 27, 13 5:02 PM

Father Says Son Injured During Hampton Bays Football Locker Room Incident

Crikey:

Nature got it right in the second post. PBR is off base on all counts. The kid was admittedly involved (per the father) at points in time earlier in the year. So now his son gets hurt and it is an issue?

Let's wait for the post to tie this into soccer. It will happen, just wait.

Oh and let's tie it into the Dolphins scandal. May be a parallel in someone's mind.

How do we know the kid whose face got wrecked is so innocent. Maybe he did it all year and now the bullied kids got their revenge by giving him a taste of his own medicine. That's how I read it. I don't need facts.

it does present a conundrum. Can't have a Sandusky moment with a coach in the locker room (or pick a recent headlining WHB gym teacher if you will) or conversely we can't seem to have the boys unsupervised…it turns into a Lord of the Flies moment." Nov 8, 13 3:04 PM

Halloween A Hit In Westhampton Beach

What happened to the angry merchants?
These costumes are top notch

According to Chamber President Dwayne Wagner, members of the chamber’s executive board unanimously voted late last week to reinstate funding for the parade, explaining that it was the best decision for the neighborhood children, even if some local merchants are unhappy. He could not say how much it costs the chamber to buy the candy that is handed out by merchants during the parade, and he would not identify those business owners who wanted to cancel the parade." Father Says Son Injured During Hampton Bays Football Locker Room Incident

Guess you missed the sarcasm. I said I don't need facts to mock posters such as yourself.

And what do you mean "full investigation"? If you mean bringing in the police every time a ham sandwich disappears from a lunch bag then no. " Nov 11, 13 10:45 AM

State police? OK forget PBR you are the one who clearly had his sandwich stolen from the coat closet.

Please explain how you determine who threw a chair when the lights are out? Even "My Cousin Vinny" could mount a defense to that.

" Nov 11, 13 10:49 AM

Because neither event warrants the State Police getting involved.

For finishing second to me you'll get a lovely parting gift and a board game version of this website" Nov 13, 13 10:18 AM

1. Condescension I'll give you but I am not complacent
2. It's IMHO not IMO
3. Wandering children…I have no idea what this means or refers to. They were in a locker room not lost in the woods
4. But the fact that the troopers were mentioned at all implies someone (you) wants satisfaction and will seek it at all costs and to any end. This is not a State issue.

What really matters is the behavior of the coaches, the players and by inference the parents. I have children and al compete in various sports. They have even competed at extremely high levels (state tournaments, nationally ranked teams, one even platted in Canada as a mid Atlantic rep for the US). What is universal on ALL these teams is that lack of discipline from lack of timeliness, to poor diet, to heinous play on the field will never be tolerated.

What you have in Hampton Bays is a community of tolerance (and maybe even praise) for this type of behavior, whether it is soccer of football. If I were directly involved in the this I'd fire every AD and coach and start fresh. I'd have the parents sign a code of conduct for them and the players with the penalty spelled out. Teen Charged With Sexual Assault At Phoenix House In East Hampton

You wrote "Next time you should think about posting something cause it sure as hell affects other people"

I agree. I note your need to defend your step-brother. I would do the same. Surely though you have to see the hypocrisy in saying how greta your step-brother is and not even mentioning the victim..even with the slightest bit of concern or remorse.

As you aptly noted "you should think about posting something cause it sure as hell affects other people".

Bridgehampton Fire District Deposes Its Financial Manager, Hires Attorneys To Oversee Finances

There is a gray area. You can have expenditures that meet an audit requirement but may not have been the intent of the district. The short of it is, a finance person should pay a reasonable business expense if it is signed by the user and one authority level up. The auditors seeing both those signatures would likely not flag an item as an audit finding,

I have not done the books of a fire district but I'd think overall they are pretty simple: salary, OT, PP&E, training, travel, cell phone. Not much else is there?

Of course it could be on the revenue side. Any fund raising is ripe for abuse" Nov 20, 13 1:50 PM

I should have read the letter before commenting! Sounds like something was amiss? BTW having a Board approve every expenditure is a bit draconian. You can authorize spending limits to facilitate day to day existence but cap the dollar amounts! You can review the at month's end after the fact. Big expenses should ALWAYS have a double signature. I'd bet the other fatal error they made was the guy collecting the money was the guy approving the expense who was also the same guy who cut the check.

Silly firemen…finance is for trained professionals!!" Nov 20, 13 1:56 PM

UPDATE: Quogue Board Passes Sandy Relief Act

Why did you have to pass a law if it affected only three houses?
Couldn't have simply handled it on a case by case basis?

Oceanfront Boardwalk Part Of Town Plans For Neptune Property In Hampton Bays

I often take a contrarian point of view but this is a really poorly thought out idea. Personally, I don't have a problem with Neptune's though I don't live near it. I do think the younger people need a place to go and it is an overall draw of outside dollars. To build a boardwalk is inane. Who the heck will be on this thing? If I were spending the money I would 1. Use the lot and existing access as another public beach. 2. add to the existing footprint 1-2 restaurants so there is a reason to go there/be there. 3. Failing that it would make more sense to build the Boardwalk in the other direction and connect it to John Scott's so people could walk to a nice deck lunch. Frankly a plan like this is so poorly thought out that I would seriously question the competency of the elected officials. BTW, vibrant boardwalks/promenades involve development (Long Beach, NJ towns). It is definitely "non Hamptons" but i think it much worse to build this walkway to nowhere." Dec 11, 13 9:42 AM

Southampton Publick House Will Not Be Opening Second Location In Westhampton Beach

Westhampton is a dead town. So many prime corners are left to rot, though there is finally movement on the bowling alley. I would welcome the Drift to Casey's. This town needs more than over-priced children's clothes and ice cream stores." Dec 11, 13 9:48 AM

Oddone Conviction Overturned By Highest Court, New Trial Possible In 2008 Killing

Sport:

1. To be a scapegoat means that someone else did it and you are being held responsible.
2. Innocence is not really the term here. You are charged and you plead "guilty" or "not guilty". No one pleads innocent or is found as such*

* Exception The Duke lax case. there it was used with purpose

3. A man died as a cause of Oddone's actions. Manslaughter would be the right charge.

4. As a practical point, what grown man dances on a table? Was he all fired up by a "Coyote Ugly" marathon? Pee Wee's Big Adventure? " Dec 13, 13 11:44 AM

Three Stores Charged In Underage Drinking Raid

I always liked the drink vs vote vs die comparison. What the pundits fail to mention when juxtaposing these ages and responsibilities is that:
1. before you "die for your country" you go through bootcamp and other assorted training
2. Before you vote you do receive an education
3. No one ever points out that you never receive "training" in drinking. Schools are providing awareness but that is geared towards avoidance rather than moderation and acceptance.

Personally I think by demonizing it you make a person want it (c.f. Europeans attitude towards nudity and alcohol). I find absolutely nothing wrong if a 17 or 18 year old were to join their parents in a glass of wine with a nice dinner. You would be hard pressed to convince me that in doing so pandora's box would be open and we would devolve to a reality TV show." Dec 16, 13 10:21 AM

Other points to throw into the discussion:

1. Call it maturity but it is proven that the human brain makes better more rationale decisions after the age of 25 than in your teen yours.
2. If you hold that the first point is true then you'd restrict many rights or privileges.
3. The age of consent in some states is 16. That seems to have more consequences than a beer or a vote

Quogue Residents Speak Out Against Village Land Sale; Trustees Table Resolution

That is a creative and positive solution.

Question: Should the Village offer an exclusive to a homeowner (or two in this case) to Village property to the exclusion of other Village residents? I see the merits in retaining control but I also see the exclusive element as undesirable for public property

If there is truly a need would it be feasible to have a cat walk and kayak launch that benefits all residents of Quogue? You might need to create 2-3 parking spots (unpaved preferred) but it would seem to be minimally intrusive, environmentally neutral, and beneficial to all.
