Thiele is seeking reelection on experience

Fred Thiele has such innovative ideas and initiatives for the East End- all of which cross party lines and ideologies. I am so glad that he is our rep in Albany, and I hope that everyone realizes what a dedicated and caring person (and not just "politician") he is. " Oct 28, 08 8:47 AM

Prominent lawmakers discuss bi-partisanship

Fred does indeed embrace the concept of bipartisanship- his approach to lawmaking transcends party lines and instead is about what is good for all of his constituents. " Oct 28, 08 8:50 AM

Fred Thiele considers a party switch

In response to the few rude and inaccurate comments made above- it seems as if Fred, holding true to his ideology like a GOOD person should, has ruffled a few feathers in the lockstep set. HMMMMM..... Protesting too much maybe???

Look, the bottom line is that Fred is a great man who really does care about his constituents, the East End, and what is fair and compassionate. Anyone who knows him knows this. The naysayers just look bitter and shriveled....we are LUCKY to be getting Fred.

Hospital makes a profit for first time in eight years

UM, ok...whatever....this is the same story all over again....about how great Chaloner is...isn't anyone even the slightest bit curious about the demise of the last two hospitals he ran? Oh, sure...he can retort that their downfall, in succession, was due bad reimbursement, a bad climate for healthcare, blah blah blah...all true to a great degree of course- for every institution. However, this in no way detracts from the culpability of questionable decision-making and, most importantly, running for the hills (or New York or Southampton) and leaving a trail of destruction behind him when things did indeed get bad." Jul 2, 09 8:41 AM

Well only time will tell...let's hope for the sake of Southampton Hospital that he can learn the THIRD time around!! How much learning does one person need??

In any case, even if by some miracle he does end up being the messiah of the East End, how does that help the hundreds of people who suffered from his "learning curve?" Residents having to find new employment mid-year, people on all levels not being paid for months on end, an internal divisiveness and lethargy that was the result of extremely poor leadership, poorly planned programs that cost MILLIONS and NEVER even came close to fruition...the list goes on and on...

That is one hell of a way to gain experience and knowledge- on the backs of employees and patients...." Jul 2, 09 3:54 PM

Shinnecocks still face obstacles in casino bid

Although there are many many people within the Nation who are wonderful , there are indeed people within the tribe who have less than stellar motives- most of whom have risen to power (or wish to) and make the decisions...often at the expense of other Shinnecock. It is very difficult to know who to trust." Jul 2, 09 4:06 PM

Hospital makes a profit for first time in eight years

Give it a rest??? That is incredible! Tell that to the countless people who suffered under Chaloner's leadership. People who lost their jobs, their stability, their careers...I would like to know how brave you would be to tell them to their FACES to "give it a rest..."

In addition, Southampton Hospital, with all of its flaws, is the single most important hub of healthcare for the East End. If Southampton Hospital were to befall the same fate as the TWO previous institutions under the purview of Chaloner, we would all lose out. The East End simply cannot afford to lose Southampton Hospital...The board of directors and all of the East End should keep a watchful eye on Mr. Chaloner and his decision-making ." Tuckahoe School Board considers superintendent's contract

I am a former parent at Tuckahoe that has since moved- my children were there for 6 years. Mrs. Rozzi has ALWAYS been an incredible addition to the school and was wonderful with my kids. The politics in incestuous schools such as Tuckahoe are unbelievable.

Linda is a great person- and I will never forget how kind she was to us when we were there. The school board members who are and were against her (I know them and they are pretty crass and abrasive) are exerting what little power they have in this lifetime to merely flex muscles and inflict a personal agenda, whatever that may be.

The hen set at Tuckahoe is VERY PETTY!!!

Hang in there Linda- any school would be lucky to have you- if you go, hopefully your new school will appreciate you like they should at Tuckahoe!" Jul 25, 09 1:07 AM

Waiting game continues for McGintee

Whatever the reasons for this mess, I can speculate that Supervisor McGintee did not act with malice or dishonesty. Lack of understanding and knowledge of the rules, most likely... Hampton Bays community mourns boy killed by accused drunk driver
By Vera Chinese
Aug 26, 09 11:47 AM

Yes, innocent until proved guilty is the platform of our legal system...but a case such as this...failing field sobriety tests, refusing blood or breath tests...all gives the anecdotal appearance of driving while intoxicated...

All drunk driving is reprehensible, but Kabot has a special duty to her constituents...of compassion, forethought, responsibility.

My GOD, just recently a family LOST THEIR CHILD to a drunk driver within miles of her own neighborhood...

The sheer hell they must be experiencing...a sorrow so profound it cannot be described....

WHERE is Kabot's compassion for them?

WHAT THE HELL is she thinking????????? What a total SLAP in the face to all parents...to all women who have given birth and are trying to keep their kids safe.

I have two sons in East Quogue...they walk on the streets, as is their right. This boy killed in Hampton Bays could have been any of our children...

Kabot has children of her own...

Either she has a substance abuse problem or she is a malignant narcissist...she deserves NO compassion either way. Her problems are not more important than the lives of our children.

And, as a public official, she does not have the luxury of making a mistake, or of even appearing to be making one.

I am SO sad for that family who lost their son...and SO very angry at Kabot...a heartless, hollow woman who obviously can not see beyond her own nose.

Why is there ANY debate about forgiving OR forgetting??? Driving while impaired doesn't just HAPPEN, whether it is heroin, vodka or cough syrup.

Personally I do not care what a person ingests, inhales or injects in the privacy of their own home...however, when they choose to do it, knowing full well that they are getting behind the wheel of what then becomes a weapon, that is when I have a problem. Kabot knew she was going to a party. That teacher knew he was fixed up before getting in the car.

Look, a heroin user, on his own time, could still be a good teacher. A drinker, on her own time, could still be an honorable public official. Let's separate antiquated Judeo-Christian judgments about consciousness-altering substances from the real issue, which is that driving while impaired is tantamount to brandishing a gun in the middle of Main Street while impaired."
