Shinnecock Indian Nation wins preliminary federal recognition

These negative comments are just too much. Unbelievable! It saddens me that the Shinnecock Indians, and all other tribes/Native Americans, even have to go through this process in the first place. Native Americans had to suffer the devastation of being removed from their sacred lands, cheated, killed, disgraced, TOTAL IDENTITY THEFT which included the taking of their language, being used and abused, lied to, and treated like animals. Some tribes don't even exist anymore and will never have the opportunity to get anything back! Shinnecock Nation's Federal Recognition is not even close to what they really should get in return for almost being completely wiped out. One thing I'm certain of, whatever they decide they want to benefit from this Recognition, they deserve it!! As far as any gaming operation Shinnecock may be contemplating, I'm sure they will take heed to some of the downfalls mentioned throughout these comments that other tribes endured. You learn from other people's mistakes. Have you??? Congratulations and best wishes to the Shinnecock Nation!!!!" Dec 16, 09 10:04 AM

Thank you so much for your "on point" comment directed to Razaa re: assimilation. " Dec 16, 09 8:41 PM

Shinnecocks expect final word on recognition Tuesday

Today is a good day for my people! From a cousin in Philadelphia, but whose heart and spirit are right there with you!!! " Jun 15, 10 1:36 PM

So what does this have to do with the story of the day (Federal Recognition)??!!@!@ This can happen anywhere and by anyone or group of people. They may be a little protective, so what?! You would protect what little you were left with too!! Plus, there are two sides to every story!! Why are you even bringing this up? Just have to tell it?? Okay, you did! Feel better?" Jun 15, 10 1:46 PM

One more thing...I remember my grandfather telling me a story that was handed down by his father about how we were told to get the f*** off by people who came from a land far, far away, who dropped anchors off their ships and stepped on to OUR land! When we didn't, they did it for us! Real talk! Hence where we are today (literally) and all the more reason to celebrate!!!" Jun 15, 10 2:48 PM

I can break it down even more. If we all had to pick up and move back to our origins, guess who would have to go first and have the furthest to go??!!! "YOU PEOPLE", who have been belly-aching and making your predictions and thinking you know everything, need to stop and think about how you got to where you are today and at whose expense. You came in slick and easy. Why don’t you just be thankful and shut-up!!! Don’t get it twisted, The Shinnecock Nation is comprised of very intelligent people who can run circles around most of those who are making these negative comments and who have one-track minds. They have and will have it covered, trust me, and will apply their knowledge and wisdom to whatever they plan to do!! Oh, Mr. RIGHTfromWRONG, you commented about waste and garbage? You need to stop “waste-ing” your time and get that “garbage” out of your head about what changes and plans “you” think are going to happen and how they're going to happen! You also made comment about being “happy”…Not “happy”, are you Mr. RIGHTfromWRONG? I sense you haven’t been for a long, long time. Feel better." Jun 16, 10 1:17 PM

Thanks, ICE. Love the history lesson. Guess I should have been a little more precise with my hypothetical scenerio. Good advice. I'm done with Mr. RightfromWrong. Issues!!!" Jun 16, 10 4:23 PM

Shinnecock tribe receives federal recognition

ICE is right. I wondered what happened to the comments too. They are interesting indeed!!" Jun 16, 10 4:44 PM

Nuff said. You are right on point with your comment. Nice!" Jun 17, 10 8:12 PM

Shinnecock tribe receives federal recognition

I would also love to see the Shinnecock Nation take back the playground that the big kids have been playing on for years....Shinnecock Golf Course!! If there is no other land that they should take back, it should definitely be that land. Then Shinnecock Indian flag can be raised again to wave proudly. Seriously!!!" Jun 18, 10 9:49 AM

Shinnecock Nation explores opening tribal college at Stony Brook Southampton site

What an ignorant statement! Stop labeling!! I think it's an "excel"lent idea to open a tribal college. That would be a very positive move and a successful one!!!" Jun 24, 10 1:44 PM

When you say "indians" are you referring to ALL "indians", all members of the Shinnecock Nation, some???? I just want to know how deep your ignorance goes, SirHampton." Jun 24, 10 1:56 PM

Now, that's what I'm talking about!! Nicely said, KenBrown Eagle!" Jun 25, 10 9:13 AM

Very interesting thought. Even makes sense." Jun 25, 10 9:16 AM

This is the first comment that I have read, since the day Federal Recognition to the Shinnecock Nation was declared, that puts a very unique take on the hatred, bigotry and prejudices that I have seen posted on these boards. Yes, take all these negative and hateful comments and run with them in the right direction, Shinnecock Nation!! Mr. Tree Man, you are a very wise man!! " Jun 25, 10 9:39 AM

Shinnecock Community Notes, August 5, In Memoriam

Be strong Shinnecock Nation, be strong! Take heed to this very powerful and profound message. Take the loss of these good people and turn it into something positive. Do it for them. Live and believe as one people, one Nation. Embrace each other and love one another. My spirit and love are always with you." Aug 3, 10 10:05 PM

Cheryl "Toot" Crippen Munoz of the Shinnecock Indian Nation dies at 62

This article speaks volumes about our beloved Toot - very well put. Toot was the epitome of the Shinnecock woman - proud, confident, a true leader, fun-loving and a pillar of strength for family, friends and, especially, her people of the Shinnecock Nation. Things will never be the same without her, but her spirit will carrying us on until we meet again. This is a huge loss. Toot, you will be sorely missed, but never, ever forgotten!" Sep 3, 10 11:37 AM

Shinnecock Community Notes, September 2

@ LadyLuck...ok, this is scary...sounds like Toot talking, and not saying that in a bad way. She was always "real talk" and spoke straight from the hip. It's all good. Thank you." Sep 3, 10 11:50 AM

At Home with Marco and Ann Marie Borghese

I got a sense of calm and peaceful tranquility as I read this story. We are living in stressful times and I can only imagine spending just a few moments at Castello di Borghese would go a long way to bringing the stress level down to some normalcy. Can I come over? I'll even shoo away the birds and deer for you. Enjoy!" Sep 24, 10 10:27 AM

Shinnecocks get final word, become 565th recognized tribe

I definitely pushed the wrong button when I said I "liked" your comment. I see you still have issues and taking advantage of "freedom of speech" while you hide behind that black silhouette and pink background of yours. You are the biggest hater ever!! You are entitled to your opinion, but thank God that's all it is, but you need some serious Rx medicine and therapy. Just my opinion!" Oct 3, 10 7:20 PM

Saks Fifth Avenue closes Southampton store this past weekend; Water Mill's Citarella also closed

God you're not nice!!! You could have stopped at "So go to Bjs its your right"." Oct 8, 10 9:49 AM

Why can't we all just get along?? Why can't "comments" be made without personally attacking one another??? Riciculous!! It's not that deep, people!" Oct 8, 10 9:58 AM

Ok, ok, joe hampton, "sweet" story. Would love to have the recipe for that Tiramisu - please. Oh, and yes ICE did agree with my comment and I accept it without question. Enjoy your day." Oct 11, 10 9:27 AM

Escape To New York Canceled Sunday Due To Rain

HEY, SAFETY FIRST!!! NO MATTER WHAT!!! Had the Shinnecock Nation not made the decision to cancel, Lord knows what would have happened, and if it did, I would hate to see what the comments would be. This was the first E2NY hosted by the Shinnecock Nation and I'm sure all kinds of precautions were taken throughout the event, which made for a very successful and wonderful event that was well-organized, without incident, and both sides of the event were in total communication with each other at all times. I say cancelling the last day's event was a good move!!!!!! For once, it was good to see that greed didn't get in the way of safey and the well-being of people working and attending the event. Kudos to the Shinnecock Nation and E2NY decision-makers." Aug 10, 11 12:02 PM

Shinnecocks Reject Casino Partner Contract

I'm happy and proud of the outcome of the vote. No longer one-sided. The "people" of the Shinnecock Nation have spoken. I'm hopeful that now the Shinnecock Nation can move forward together. I truly believe this had to happen. From this day forth, stick together and stay strong together and remember, the children/next generation of the Shinnecock Nation are watching and are counting on those who can and take part in the decision-making that is going to make a difference in their future. Mamoweenene!!!" Dec 16, 11 10:01 AM
