Poor economy exacerbates persistent East End tension over immigration

That being the case, SHNative, it takes your credibility away. You are making what are now unfounded claims. They remain that way till YOU prove otherwise." May 4, 09 1:26 PM

squeaky,
SHNative claimed that those foks using the "day laborers/illegals/" or what you want to call them are contributors to the town GOP. I only ask that she provide some proof. Thats all. " May 4, 09 2:23 PM

Southampton reassessments do not reflect economic downturn

Mr Right (who isn't) says:

Sunrise is (CR 39) a county road. The "Sunrise is SR 27, as in State Route 27. WHat is aka the North Road is CR39. i.e. County Road 39. The signs were paid for and put up by the County." May 17, 09 3:33 PM

Dozens rally in opposition of homeless sex offender trailer

JustUs1, this is not the issue. The issue is that these offenders are all placed in one small cummunity. The fact that it is on jail proerty means nothing. It could just as well be at Tanger Mall. The jail provides no security or anything having to do with theses offenders.
It is a matter of sharing the burden throughout the county. If you figure out the daily expenses of transporting these offenders by taxi, (paid by us) on a daily basis, we could house them in some pretty upsale hotels cheaper.
The changes in zoning etc to keep them away from schools, libraries, etc is indeed a ploy by politicians to keep the masses happy. And this is the result of what they have done.
I'll assume you live no where near the trailer." May 20, 09 7:26 AM

Common Sense, (who doesn't have any)
The position is a 40 hour a week job, and I know Mr. Malone burns the midnight oil quite frequently. I am sure if you reach out to him, he willl be happy to inform you as to all of his duties and let you see the number of hours he puts in on a weekly basis.
Please put your brain in gear before you spread completly unfounded BS on a forum. " May 20, 09 1:55 PM

CommonSense,
It was "stand up" for you to post that. I am sure, Jim being the gentlemen that he is will gladly accept the apology, and consider it water under the bridge. Have a great Memorial Day weekend. " May 21, 09 6:16 PM

Southampton Town restructures its finance department, hires new comptroller

Kabot says town in the process of correcting fiscal crisis

The ignorance of many comments here is unbelievable. It is undisputed that these financial shenanigans happened in 2002, 2003, and 2006 during Skip Heaney's Republican administration before Kabot's time.

When Linda ran in 2007, she couldnt stop talking about her 12 years of experience. First as Vince's "Executive Assistant", then starting as a Council Person in 2002. Way before 2005, 2006, and 21007. This is all on HER!

Bottom line, she is an ego driven pol., just not up to the task.

Adios Linda, take the Assistant GSA Manager with you." May 30, 09 8:56 AM

SHNative said:
Had it not been for Anna Throne-Holst we would have never even known about the problems in town hall.
It is documented that as Dep County Clerk, Mr Malone was warning the town in Spring of 2008 of the impending disaster. Mortgage Tax revenues were falling like the Mets in September!! ATH is not the super hero you are making her out to be.
It's time for a return to FISCAL conservatism. The purpose of government is to do only that which the public cannot do for themselves. Nothing more, nothing less.

" Jun 3, 09 7:02 AM

INS, Judge Kooperstien is coming to the end of a 4 year term ,(her third or 4th I think) and she as well as Judge WIlson have been cross endorsed by the Republicans and Conservatives.

SH NAtive, wrong again, it was Malone who started sending warnings to the Town Board in Spring of 08." Jun 3, 09 12:27 PM

Easy enough to find out SHNative. But let me remind you of something....see all the open space out here? Yup, all that preservation was started by Marty Lang, he was a sewer digger by profession. It was fine tuned by the Republicans following his leaving office. Look to Easthampton to see how the Dems treat CPF and open preservation, like hogs at a feeding trough.
Two of the three candidate the Dems are offering are RECENT NYC transplants. You know, the city that has elected a REPUBLICAN Mayor since the early 90's and watched as the crime rate driopped to almost zilch.
Enlighten me as to how running a welfare fraud unit will help her be a Council Person? Unless of course she is going to be a watchdog for illegal aliens claiming public assistance bennies. Think that'll happen?" Jun 3, 09 4:39 PM

And they're off...........
Now Ms Pope wants to cancel elections for the Highway Supertintendant does she?
Cause we all know the Dems are more qualified than the voters to select who runs that Department.
This is elitism at it's best. Keep your eyes open folks, they will at least be smiling as the put it to you." Jun 5, 09 3:01 PM

Southampton Town considers creating a reserve fund to pay off debt service

It's not an "idea". Borrowing against anticipated future income is provided for in Fred Thiele's CPF legislation. Ask him how to pay the bills when the market cools to the point of providing no income to pay the loans." Jun 8, 09 12:22 PM

delmar,
Thatys is a nice twist on the facts as presented above. This should be a forum where facts are discusssed
The 300 mil refers to all the property purchased with CPF funds, paid for by people who bought homes since the CPF started. There is no missing 20 mil, we are not 110 mil in the hole. That refers to what is essentially a mortgage on property purchased assuming future income to the CPF by new home buyers. You are mixing apples and oranges and making "facts" up as you go.
It may well serve Anna for folks like you to poison the forum, but it doesnt serve the town well. Had Ann and Linda watched as the numbers fell last year , and they had AMPLE warning, we wouldnt be in the bind we are now.
And yes, the financials are available, just go to the Town Clerks office with a FOIL request and there should be no problem getting them. " Jun 9, 09 9:31 AM

Democrats nominate a newcomer for Town Board

"At the time at worked on the Welfare Fraud Unit there were many welfare laws being reformed,” Ms. Fleming said. “Part of my job was to help draft legislation and support lobbying efforts in Albany for that legislation. I understand what it means to be responsive to the public.”

That would be the Republican legislation that addressed welfare reform? Enacted under Gov George Pataki, a Republican.
Done through a Republican Congress, then signed under public pressure into law by President Clinton at the federal level." Jun 10, 09 10:04 AM

Highway Superintendent might become an appointed position

Here is a classic example of why the Republicans didn't want to renominate her in 2007. She doesn't think things through. The ONLY thing that comes from this is feeding the ego of the town board, allowing them to make this a patronage position. It is a peoples choice, Ms Graboski, plain and simple. I also understand that she wants to add Receiver of Taxes to this. Why don't you just resign when Ms Kabot gets voted out ?" Jun 10, 09 3:55 PM

Hults faces felony charges; probe's focus turns to supervisor's office

North of Highway says:

Last comment - what does this mean for Southampton Town?? Deja vou?

Please, don't be silly. In Southampton, we would have found a spot for him. As in the case of the past immediate Comptroller,Kabot, Throne-Holst, Pope, and Graboski found a postion that never existed before for a mere $100,000.00 per year, plus benifits and Civil Service protection. Things are much more efficient here, no messy trial, no firings just a nice fat paycheck." Jun 12, 09 1:06 PM

Throne-Holst to lead Southampton Democrats' November ticket

SHNative,
Just wondering here, can you defend Anna in her hiring of a personal friend to the position of Comptroller? You know in my world, if I were in her position and the new Comptroller was indeed the best at what she did, I'd have to tell that person, "Sorry, it just wouldnt look right for me to hire you". Whyis she retaining the guy who was about to be fired and rewarding him with a $100,000.00 a year job with bennies and civil service protection? For someone who will campaign on a platform of "Change"....it sure seems like the same old same old." Jun 12, 09 3:47 PM
