Race for vacant seat on Southampton Town Board heats up

You should be more concerned with ATH & Bridget giving the town away to the special interest groups and the Town Police Dept. Bridget is a liberal and we don't want or need her NYC liberal views in SH. She had some talking points during the election but all she did was point fingers and criticize others. When asked a direct question in October about the 2010 budget she could not answer and said she did not get a chance to read it, but yet she criticized it. What a joke of a candidate. Should Bridget win with ATH help she will vote whatever way ATH wants.

ATH owes the PBA for the endorsement this past election. Don't forget Mr. Hughes, a lieutenant is part of the Superior Officers Assoc. this assoc. was sued by the PBA for separating from the PBA Union. I would think the PBA would not fair well with any raise should Mr. Hughes be elected to the town board. He is a good and honest man and will vote for what is best for the tax payers. " Jan 23, 10 11:46 AM

Are you sure it was the republican's that put this town in financial trouble. Rememer we had a democrate majority during the time these deficits happened.
What did they do about it?? " Jan 23, 10 11:52 AM

Southampton councilwoman accuses supervisor of trying to 'control' her

This Board is not the ATH's Town Board, it is the Town Board of the voters of SH Town. Why would you say that Ms. Graboski showed disrespect when voicing her opinion? Everyone has a right to say what they want and how they feel.
In Ms. Graboski view it would not be good at this time to change the Finance Committee Board, these people are familiar with the town's finances, why change members in mid-stream. Ms. Graboski is also not in favor of changing the Comptroller in mid-stream either.
Anna should be able to listen to other's opinions without acting like a spoiled brat.
After all she is the consensus builder, or is she?
The comment Anna added "that it is not fair for Ms. Graboski to judge the performance of the comptroller’s office because the councilwoman has spent seven days in Florida since the New Year began, this comment was not called for, I'm sure Anna has spent time away from the office many times.

Foundation takes reins at Southampton Town Animal Shelter

This paper may have stated that, but it was clear that all the town shelter employees were scheduled to be laid off. As far as I remember the town never said that employees at the shelter would keep their jobs.
The new formed foundation is not obligated to keep the town employees. They can hire who ever they want.
In my view the shelter and all of its dogs and cats are in much better hands with Susan Allen in charge. They will all be well cared for you can be sure." Jan 25, 10 6:55 PM

Race for vacant seat on Southampton Town Board heats up

Our STPD does a very good job but do you have any suggestions on how to pay down the hugh deficit that exists within that dept. That is a big problem wouldn't you say? " Jan 25, 10 7:10 PM

Southampton Town Board comes to compromise on committee

The supervisor should have known better than to try and stop a resolution from being put on the agenda. No wonder Ms. Graboski was upset. ATH would not like it one bit if it were done to her.
This is not about taking the reins, this should be about getting along with others and doing the right thing by law. I hope ATH learned her lesson.
BTW I'm not the least bit insulted over the Berkoski appointment. " Jan 28, 10 9:25 PM

Would you both feel the same way if Berkoski was a democrat? I'm sure the answer would be yes, but we will never know for sure.
His appointment was voted on at a town board meeting with ATH voting no. That's not being appointed behind closed doors, and he did interview last year. That's good enough for me as a tax payer.
The resolution that ATH blocked by asking the comptroller not to approve it is a whole different story, that's what is called a closed process. No one should block a resolution even if they are the supervisor. Let it come on the floor discuss it and vote yes or no.
No hypocrite here, thank you." Jan 29, 10 8:00 PM

How would you know the others aside from Mr. Herr were familiar with the work in Town Hall? Those dem's that spoke were invited by ATH to have it on record that people were opposed (when most could care less).
This was a set up by her, that what she does. It helped get her elected.
She invited people to speak on the closing of the shelter, when she know all along it was being privitized. At her request people spoke about the lay offs in the youth bureau, ATH even said she would hire 1.5 people in her office in order to save some jobs. Did that ever happen? Nope, she has 4 people in her office, she is a phony and a liar. " Jan 31, 10 1:35 PM

You are correct DJII13, under her calm demeanor we have a supervisor who is a manipulator and a phony. If you disagree with her she invites her democrat friends to speak at board meeting for the public to see at home. Its all staged.

Why wasn’t the work session where Ms. Graboski told Anna off regarding the resolution on the finance committee shown on the town web site? Does everyone remember the one that Anna asked the comptroller to block? Every other work session is on the town web site. Was it because it made ATH look bad? Is this transparency Anna? " Feb 1, 10 9:31 AM

Bishop girding for fall fight

Congressman Bishop I think the people have had enough of you rubber stamping the Obama agenda. You are not and have not listened to your constituents and have dis-connected with them. I and many other do not want this proposed health care bill, cap and trade etc. The congress was excluded from the health care bill, its disgraceful that you were pushing this on the people. You can't buy this election with money you take from national campaign. Don't count on the people that have supported you in the past. This is a new era and the people will speak in November. Let what happened in Boston, MA be a lesson to you, so say bye bye now Mr. Bishop. " Feb 1, 10 10:37 AM

We will see in November." Feb 1, 10 6:08 PM

Southampton Town Comptroller Wright reappointed

How does ATH know Ms. Wright. Did they become friends before or after Ms. Wright donated $1,000 to ATH campaign in 2007. Talk about cronyism." Feb 1, 10 6:18 PM

Southampton Town is prepared to withdraw lawsuit over Aldrich Lane park

We are off the subject of this article but seeing you and others brought up the Berkoski issue again I will add my two cents.
So ATH knew that a resolution to appoint Berkoski was coming to a vote on the floor and invited those to speak against the appointment. She very good at staging these events with her dem friends.
She also made it a point to grandstand when Nuzzi and Malone wanted to wait to appoint the comptroller. I have a qustion when did ATH and Tamara Wright become friends? Was it before or after Ms. Wright donated $1,200 to ATH's campaign in June 2007? Talk about cronyism.

Questions are raised over Town Board candidate's fund-raising restrictions

Who is raising these questions???
What are you democrat's running scared because your candidate Bridget Fleming is a loser. During last years election all she kept doing was point fingers and cast blame. She also criticized the 2010 budget, but when asked specifics about the budget she said she had not gotten a chance to read it. What a joke she is.
What’s her platform going to be this time? I could care less about her law degree and that she worked for the DA or AG, or wherever she worked, I’m not impressed. She’s a wannabe with very little knowledge of this town and thinks she can get elected with some talking points spoon fed to her by the current supervisor.
You guys are just picking at straws with this nonsense about Hughes not being able to run for office because he’s a retired police officer. Who cares who his campaign manager is or what he does. Hughes has roots in this community and cares about the residents, he will make a wonderful addition to the town board with open honest government.
This article should not even have been written. What a waste of paper.
" Feb 3, 10 6:59 PM

Southampton Town Comptroller Wright reappointed

Any democrats care to comment on the $1,200 donation to ATH. Not bad for a job that pays $115,000." Feb 3, 10 7:04 PM

Questions are raised over Town Board candidate's fund-raising restrictions

I'm happy to hear that all the towns funds are accounted for but why are questions not be raised about that? All of a sudden the town has no deficit? All during last years election the democrats used this as a political platform. We heard it at nausem on the radio, in campaign ads and at the debates. Was the supervisors hand picked comptroller setting up the 2009 election?
What will Bridge Fleming talk about for this special election now that the town is not burning.
We were misled as tax payers. Is anyone upset about this?" Feb 3, 10 7:24 PM

Rocky please explain how is Lt. Hughes still employed by the town, is he using some leave he is entitled to use? Also, it's not that the state does not care, as stated above it not against any laws or rules. Whats your beef with Lt. Hughes?
Sour grapes on not making Lt. " Feb 3, 10 7:36 PM

I'm sure he has years of leave that he is entitled to use SHNative so what is your problem." Feb 3, 10 7:39 PM

My answer to you is simple. I am not impressed with Bridget Fleming because all during last years election she offered nothing as a candidate. As I stated before all she did was point fingers about the financial state of the town. As you say with the outstanding school she attended and her important work with the DA's office, she should have been able to do better. All she had to offer was criticism, no real issues on how to fix anything. I'll say it again, I am not and was not impressed with this woman one bit. She seems fake, phony & clueless to me.
Also as far as I understand Mr. Hughes is using his leave during this time." Feb 3, 10 8:25 PM

I would be interested to know what that platform is. My feeling of Bridget Fleming would be the same even if she was born and raised here. What really turned me off to her was when she was asked a specific question regarding the 2010 budget but was unable to answer because she admitted that she did not make time to read it. How could a candidate running for office criticize a budget without reading it. What kind of work ethic does someone like her have?" Feb 3, 10 11:18 PM

Your questions should be what is ATH stand on the requiring STPD cops to retire after their 20 years of service, even though a large deficit existed (5Mil. at the time). In 2008 she would not vote to retire any police officers, thats the reason they gave to endorse her. Did you forget? Did you forget how much money they donated to her campaign?
" Feb 4, 10 8:59 AM

Publius have you asked or do you know what Bridget Fleming's commitment to reduce police costs will be? We already know where Sup. Throne-Holst stands on the issue. She was bought and sold by the PD with the endorsement and donation during campaign 2009." Feb 7, 10 3:06 PM

It took 35 posts to say what everyone knew all along, you are voting for Bridget Fleming. The PD budget is one issue, what about all the other problems our town has. Basing your reason for going with one particular person because they were never part of the police union is just (sorry) stupid.
" Feb 7, 10 6:50 PM

Southampton Town Board candidates face off in final debate

Lets be reminded during the years this deficit happened was when the town had a democrat majority.
Bridget Fleming offered no solution to anything and skirted most questions posed to her, she never directly answered any of the questions. She is trying to hide the fact that she is just so liberal and would love to see a hiring hall. This is her 2nd time doing this, she should be better prepared with answers on all issues.
She is an empty skirt with no vision and no idea's for SH town. She did stress all of her endorsements thinking this would help her get elected.
The town just went through mass layoffs and ATH wants to hire a new person for $60,000 per year with $30,000 in benefits? Even if this position is being paid with a grant, what happens when the grant ends? Will Anna keep him because they need his expert input? Once he is hire Anna will never fire any employee she hired. The town is facing hard times we need smaller government, not more programs with new employees. Bridget will just be rubber stamp for ATH and will vote in lock step with her, she is not her own person. In one of her ads she claims she will get the economy moving, how does she propose to do that? Give a break.
I can't believe this woman is an attorney she presents herself like an air head.
" Feb 25, 10 6:48 PM

I thought they down graded the deficit to 5 million per the comptroller Tamara.
Where was ATH in 2008 when it came time to retire some police officers. Knowing a 5 million existed in the PD she would not vote to retire anyone. Thats the reason the SHPD used for endorsing her.
Fleming demonstated no knowledge of any of the issues but did a good job skirting them. If I remember correctly Fleming stated at the FRENCA debate that the PD endorsed her, but that is not mentioned in any of ads. One thing that is mentioned is that she would get the economy moving? Talk about talking points. This woman is not even capable to making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. " Feb 25, 10 7:28 PM

Bill Hughes was arresting the bad guys while the democrats on the TB at the time did nothing but spend the tax payers money .
Vote for Bill Hughes for Town Board. " Feb 25, 10 7:31 PM

fidelis it’s typical of you to down play the role of the democrats during those years. Have you read the paper the deficit has now been reduced to 5 million, not fifteen million you mentioned above. The supervisor is the chief financial officer, but they are not CPA's that is the job of the comptroller to keep the books straight. Who did the town get to audit the books, It wasn’t ATH, she not capable.

Bridget will not go on the record with a yes or no answer re: hiring hall is because she is in favor of one. This would not be very popular at this time with the voters of SH.
I don't believe for one minute when the grant money runs out that ATH will not find a way to keep that person employed.

Please explain how Bridget Fleming intends to GET THE ECONOMY MOVING as stated in her campaign ads.
I can’t want for this answer, it’s got to be a good one.
" Feb 26, 10 12:36 AM

The conservative's in SH will never vote for a liberal democrat like Bridget, she is just too left. After all look at some of those that endorsed her, Tim Bishop better start packing up his office. He is done in November." Feb 26, 10 12:44 AM

Fix it now
Another typical answer, now it's Hughes fault for the deficit in the PD. You dems will try to spin this anyway you can. " Feb 26, 10 12:46 AM

I don't know what radio or TV station you watch or listen to but the State of NY is bankrupt they are withholding our NYS Refunds to help sure up there own budgets.
As far as the Feds they are nothing but trillions of debt. So get real, with this pipe dream of Bishop or Thiele getting any money for Bridget to get the economy moving. Again the only thing who is moving is Bishop right out of office in November. " Feb 26, 10 4:22 PM

Because Bridget is an attorney, that does not automatically give her the experience or qualify her to be a town board member.
I believe Mr. Hughes gave his real opinion on hiring halls; he is not in favor of one if it would cost the tax payers any money. He said right out front NO. It was Bridget who said in the last election that she would like to see one but this time danced around the issue. She is a phony just like ATH who will give this town away.

To compare the past supervisor of East Hampton who was a retired police Lieutenant with Lieutenant Bill Hughes is just ridicules. The past supervisor of E.H. was a democrat who spent, spent, spent and was dishonest.

In my opinion the democrats are looking for is some kind of a majority, one more dem on the TB will still not give them any majority. It is them who are looking for a one party rule. From what I have read in the papers and watch on TV, ATH seems to have gotten Nancy Graboski on board with her. Don't do this Nancy, don't trust ATH and don't forget how she tried to block your resolution last month. The only reason she said she would discuss it and work things out was because she never expected you to expose her or make an issue in public at a work session. ATH does not take criticism very well in person or in the papers . She is playing you to push her own agenda.

" Feb 27, 10 8:43 AM

Does any one know if the health insurance part ($30,000 per the press) of this sustainability coordinator position is allowed to be paid out of this grant money or will the town have to pick up the cost?
Also, all those that are still complaining about the Berkoski appointment to the planning board, I don't remember seeing any complaints when the female democract was re-appointed by the the board. BTW the rep's voted yes to re-appoint her so come on, stop the whining.
Some of you just wont be happy until the democrats have the majority on all the boards and screw things up like in Washington, spending your way to prosperity" Mar 2, 10 9:45 PM

Local politicians consider congressional campaign

Tell me why was Tim Bishop qualified to be a congressman? " Mar 5, 10 5:37 PM

Southampton Town Board candidates face off in final debate

I don't know where you got the 23% number from, but this is what I found from the 2007 census
Southampton Town
Republican - 48.521%
Democrats - 49.460%" Mar 5, 10 6:17 PM

In my opinion the SHPBA endorsed Flemming because of ATH, they endorsed her and over donated to her campaign in Nov. I'm sure they think they stand a better change to get whatever they want should Flemming win.
Also, don't forget the PBA sued the Superiors Officers Union because they separated from the PBA. The negitive1/4 page ad the PBA paid for (I think) was payback. Bill Hughes was part of the Superiors Officers Union, no love there between them. We are so much better off with Bill Hughes he is a man who will not vote only on party lines he is his own man.
Bridget on the other hand will just vote with ATH just like she said she would." Mar 5, 10 6:28 PM

Local politicians consider congressional campaign

Razza: This is part of a job description for a college provost this hardly qualifies anyone with this experience to run to congressman.
BTW as far as I'm concerned Bishop has not made any decisions, he just votes with Obama or with party lines. He's got to go in November
Important external relationships: Students and their families, organisations and other individuals who are users or potential users of College. Emergency services. Local residents.
Main purpose of job: To have ultimate responsibility for the character, discipline, well-being and development of the College community and for co-ordinating and representing the views and interests of its members.
Do you see anything about foreign policy in the job discription? Health care reform or economy issues? As far a global warming most of know that is just bogus BS but Al Gore (flying around in his private jet) made millions trying to get people to buy in. What a flawed science give me a break. " Mar 7, 10 6:43 PM

Special election today for Southampton Town Board seat

DJII13 The conservatives really screwed your candidate, if Hughes had the 2nd line he would have blew Fleming away. Eddie Walsh is a disgrace. " Mar 9, 10 10:22 PM

Bridget Fleming wins vacant Southampton Town Board seat

She had a good line of BS, I hope those that did not vote are happy. Get ready for higher taxes, and you better not complain if you could not be bothered to even vote. " Mar 9, 10 10:28 PM

She won because of the 2nd line, without the Independence party line she would have lost. As you can see Hughes received more R votes than her D votes.
So don't ever think it had anything to do with having integrity. " Mar 10, 10 12:11 AM

To Westendoftown
I couldn't agree more, with all due respect to Bill Hughes being a very good man.
It was Marietta Seaman and some of her republican cronies that caused this debacle. Help from Seaman is like the kiss of death, no one has any respect for the former town clerk. She was elected and then left for an up island job paying 150k. The robo call with her voice was a waste of time and money.
The only saving grace is that the Reps still have the majority.
These dems are scary with their liberal agenda." Mar 10, 10 6:45 PM

I have no ax to grind, this is just my opinion. Again, with all do respect to Mr. Hughes, I believe Ms. Molinaro would have been the winner last night if she had gotten the nomination. With 3 lines she could not have lost. Why did the conservative's leave the line blank? I don't look at the situation as annointing Thiele's hand picked candidate. I look at it as a win for a republican. So you would rather cut your nose off to spite your face? " Mar 10, 10 8:38 PM

I understand it would have been a gamble, but one thing for sure Bridget will never be on the rep team.
Moving forward, Bishop has to go for sure, maybe Thiele too. " Mar 10, 10 10:16 PM

How many times have Nuzzi and Malone gave a no vote that involved party politics? Out of all the resolutions that have passed in the last 2.5 months how many resolutions did not pass because of a no vote or dead lock of a 2-2 vote. Also, how many times did Nuzzi vote WITH ATH in the last 2 years.
You guys just won't be happy until this liberal democrat agenda of ATH and Bridget ruin this town. The members on the TB can't always agree on issues. Did ATH and Nuzzi always agree with the past supervisor? Anyone care to answer?
Ms. ATH ran on consensus building and bringing parties together? But all she has done is complain how obstructive the Rep have been and how the TB needs balance. Is that consensus building?????
Problem here is that ATH can't get along with others that disagree with her." Mar 11, 10 6:00 PM

Southampton Town Code enforcement busts motel

The owner of this property is a slumlord, this is a motel that should not be rented as apartments. I could care less how much his property taxes are, if he can't afford to keep this place he should sell it. If you have ever driven passed this place its a rundown dump.
I hope the town fine's him thousands of dollars. The article states that some motel rooms have no heat, families are living in these rooms with children. What a disgrace, close this place down now." Mar 11, 10 6:44 PM

Bridget Fleming wins vacant Southampton Town Board seat

LOL I didn't loose. Won't don't you try answering some of my questions yearrounder.
I'm sure the liberals will turn this town around but only for the worse outcome ever." Mar 11, 10 7:55 PM

Bishop will vote yes on health care reform bill

Pray that this health care bill fails. If it should pass, it’s the ends of having any new good doctors going into the profession.
The government can't run anything, Medicare is broke and now some doctors are dropping Medicare patients because they pay peanuts. What good doctor will work for a $10 or $15 office visit?
This bill is not even passed, and now obama is looking to give amnesty to all illegally.
We all know who will be paying for them as well. That’s us the middle class.

" Mar 19, 10 9:52 PM

Wow Bishop read all 2000 + pages of this bill already and knows everything that's in it. Wasn't it just released? He is so full of it. He has no idea what he's voting yes for and could really care less." Mar 19, 10 10:09 PM

I heard the same thing as teeteeme, student loans will be given from the government not from banks. Where do you get your lies from, channel CBS, NBC, CNN or ABC. If this was such a great health care bill why is Obama making deals on air force one and making threats to democrats who are on the fence, telling them they wont have any friends in the White House if they vote no on this bill. This president acts like a dictator and wants government to control everything our lives.
Can someone tell me what is SERVICE.org I heard a commercial on our local radio with Obama's voice encouraging our young people to sign up?
In just a few words the constutution was written so that rights of citizens would be clearly defined, and the role of Gov. would be limited
Any health care program that the gov. runs could never be any good. What good doctors will spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to be educated and then be paid $15 for an office visit? The only people who will be well taken care of with a serious illness will be the very rich who can afford to private pay.
If this passes stay healthy, we will have very few doctors to take care of us when we are old or get a serious illness. " Mar 20, 10 8:40 PM

I hope those that are in favor of this health care bill know that the cost is 1/6th of the economy. ONE SIXTH people. This is the start of the fall of this country. I do not want or need to be taken care by the gov. from cradle to grave. I want to work for what I have and do not want any hand out from anyone. I do not believe in re-distribution of wealth.
Another point, how will the gov. tell a private ins comp that parents must cover children to age 26?
Why is Pelosi telling members of congress that they must vote yes even if they are in danger of not being re-elected? Why is she telling them they must vote yes because Obama presidency is in jeopardy?
What is going on people, wake up.
In Obama's own words this is a "slow transition" (and just a beginning), our government wants to take over health care and education. Does anyone get it, this current gov. (president) wants to take over everything?
