Budget officer: East Hampton not allowed to have a comptroller

I trusted Janet Verneuille. I don't trust Len Bernard and noone else should either, irrespective of title. Everyone should know that Len's job was in serious jeopardy in Sag Harbor because of his incompetence and a deal was cut to get him out of there and into East Hampton before he was fired. Isn't that just what the Town needs... to pick up incompetents from other parts. Don't think so. So far this board has done exactly that in two of the most important positions in Town Government, the Town Attorney's Office and the Finance Department. Good job....NOT. " Feb 17, 10 12:31 PM

A listening session for the East Hampton Town Board

This "listening session" is a sham. This board has no intention of listening to anyone but the highest campaign contributor. Keep watching and you will see them for what they are." Feb 17, 10 12:34 PM

East Hampton looks to create climate change action plan

Does anyone hear the purse jingling here? This will require matching contribution from the Town...that means your tax dollars. Now is not the time to be spending my money on theoretical plans for a municipal government. Don't you dare!" Feb 17, 10 12:37 PM

East Hampton police contract caps annual raises at three percent

I think Bill has done a good job with a difficult contract to negotiate, but something also has to be said about the police, who were willing to negotiate in good faith and come up with a deal that does its best for both sides. In these times, noone should be getting a raise but lets be realistic. This should set an example for all the other municipalities and districts.
Is TASH watching?" Feb 28, 10 9:52 AM

Happynow is clearly not a happy person. "She" appears to be slightly off balance. Not good if "she" is in charge of the towns finances.
And I do hope that in two years we all have the option of forgetting about Bill Wilkinson. Its just a shame that we are stuck with the other two parts of his "team" for another two years. Secret meetings, political donor motivated firings and "restucturings." It really is much more scary than anyone will admit to. Check out the tone in Town Hall.. Incompetence and politics reigns supreme." Mar 7, 10 9:43 AM

Local politicians consider congressional campaign

No one is "qualified" to be a congressman (or woman!). All I would ask for is someone to he honest, open and have the best interests of the community at heart and stick to it.
Unfortunately, I dont think Bishop, Nuzzi or (god forbid) schneiderman is that person, although Nuzzi seems to be the best of the bunch.
Where are the people who really care?
Does it always have to be some half-assed politician?" Mar 7, 10 9:46 AM

East Hampton CPF audit expected next week

The CPF fund is not the problem in East Hampton. They better get their priorities straight.
Every which way but addressing the real issues---spending, town hall buildings, debt, capital funds and projects.
Just because you get good press for compleing a CPF audit doesn't mean that it really affects the taxpayer. Get to the real work people!" Mar 7, 10 9:51 AM

East Hampton Town councilwoman could face charges for interfering in arrest

Instead of browbeating the arresting officers, who were clearly doing their job, has anyone thought that maybe Ms. Quigley was out of line?
I hope Bill Wilkinson treats his board members the same way he treats his employees and that Ms. Quigley gets a taste of what its like to be suspended from her job (or at least publicly embarassed) about her behaviour." Mar 9, 10 4:29 PM

Bridget Fleming wins vacant Southampton Town Board seat

Go bridget!
Its nice to see someone run (and win) for elected position that is in it for the right reason, public service. That's what its really about. I find it so unfortunate that some politicos out there (in both towns, and I don't know the impetus for Mr. Hughes' campaign) who run (and unfortunately win) on a campaign based on grudges, bad faith, promises for political favors and revenge. That is how both Towns got and will continue to get into trouble.
We need more Bridgets!" Mar 10, 10 8:52 AM

Leaf pickup may be eliminated in East Hampton Town due to budget crisis

Leaf pickup is a luxury? In what Town on Long Island is that the case? East Hampton residents barely get any servicesfrom the Town. All this is going to achieve is a large number of pissed off residents, while the Town still wallows in debt with tens of unnecessary employees and other issues that should be addressed first. The Board should focus less on obfuscating and try to deal with the real issues at hand. You are not fooling anyone." Mar 10, 10 8:58 AM

East Hampton Town councilwoman could face charges for interfering in arrest

I wonder if there is a videotape of this incident. Aren't all Town police cars now equipped with cameras? The tape won't lie. " Mar 10, 10 9:04 AM

East Hampton police contract caps annual raises at three percent

Just so you all know, Len is "eastend09", but he has several other alter egos." Mar 10, 10 10:58 AM

East Hampton Town councilwoman could face charges for interfering in arrest

The issue is not that she's a mother protecting her son. That's irrelevant. Once you are elected to public office, the behavior expected of you changes and you are held to a much higher standard. The real issue is that she may have attempted to (1) illegally interfere in a lawful arrest and (2) use her influence as a town board member to prevent the arrest of her son. Is that who you trust with your money? Focus on the issue. The fact that she is a mother does not absolve her of potentially illegal activity. No excuses!!!" Mar 10, 10 2:50 PM

East Hampton plans to eliminate leaf pickup, sell assets

This Board really needs to look further than just cutting the few services that the Town gives it residents. Reelection for Wilkie will be a big NO in my book. Restraining a huge government mess doesnt mean having to hurt the innocent taxpayer and doing it without asking for public input is worse. Maybe one of the vehicles going to be sold is the new car that was purchased for the Town attorney to drive back and froth from up-island or maybe the vehicles that the Board members are now using for personal use or maybe the series of Blackberrys purchased for their use...doubtful I'm sure. " Apr 14, 10 11:02 AM

East Hampton puts assets on the chopping block but new Town Hall will stay

Wilkie and crew ran on a platform of and I personally heard at least one of them say that they would NEVER move into the new town hall. It was a stupid thing to say then and now they just appear to be hypocrites for even saying it in the first place. Admittedly the new town hall was not a great idea, but lets be realistic it has to be completed and used. its contractual baby." Apr 15, 10 4:16 PM

Sag Harbor approves tuition contracts with Springs and Sagaponack

Yet another example of a school district giving the house away. Since the cost per student in the sag harbor school district exceeds 16K a year, the taxpayers are going to eat the remainder. What are they thinking?" Apr 29, 10 1:31 PM

Wilkinson concedes that dock sale is off the table

I am happy to see that this board is showing is true colors, They are an evil of the worst kind. " May 21, 10 3:18 PM

No jail time, fine for Hults after guilty plea; grand jury does not indict McGintee

You pretend as if this town board did not hire one of the people who the grand jury found responsible for the fiscal condition to once again run the town's finances! " Jun 22, 10 3:49 PM

No spin, you are absolutely correct. Those budget shortfalls in 2003 and 2004 were covered up by the administration in 03-04 in the hopes of getting bernard elected.
Not that McGintee and crew did anything better.. he clearly continued the "cover-up" trend to get himself re-elected. An endless unfortunate cycle that hopefully, since this has all come to light, will end. But it cannot end when the individual that started the "cover-up" is back.
It has to end for real, the taxpayers are the only ones that suffer for some politicos egos. Stop the egos and just do the right thing... for once!" Jun 23, 10 11:36 AM

Montauk residents considering recall for Wilkinson, Quigley

Recall may not be possible in New York, but those two should be ashamed of they way they have behaved and treated the town since they took office. They have alienated the voters by their disregard of public opinion, the environment and by simply mistreating people. Nasty, arrogant (and sometimes plain ignorant, misinformed and stupid) behavior is not the way to govern. No one asked for this. They haven't fixed a single thing, so many promises, no return. Bad Board Members. Bad. VOTE THEM OUT (and this comes from someone who voted for them and am "blank" registration!!)" Jul 22, 10 1:48 PM
