$122.9 million Riverhead bond defeated

I agree. While the schools do need to be updated, this is not the time to ask the taxpayers to go All-out. Riverhead school district already has unusually high taxes." Feb 11, 10 11:25 AM

We have extremely high taxes already. The schools are being crowded and many of those crowding the schools aren't paying the taxes. This district has become inundated with immigrants (thanks Flanders), to the point where the newsletter welcomed the hiring of a ESL teacher, full time.

Get the taxes due by those who don't pay or those who get the reduced lunch while drivig their escalade around Flanders." Feb 15, 10 3:29 PM

I'm referring to the people paying with their benefits car at KK in riverhead then jumping into their escalade." Feb 17, 10 9:47 AM

Car that fled police impounded; driver unidentified

If they can't confirm the owner was driving, they really can't take the car. I would think the town will have a very hard time seizing this vehicle." Feb 25, 10 3:22 PM

East Hampton Town councilwoman could face charges for interfering in arrest

A broken plate light. Yeah, ok, he wasn't targeted.

If mom was doing something illegal she would have been arrested on the spot, the arresting officers obviously didn't think it rose to the level of a crime. I can't blame her for trying to help, we don't know what happened, we weren't there.

Yes he was drunk and has to pay the price, but it is fishy." Mar 10, 10 6:44 PM

Winds sweep through South Fork, causing scattered damage

I've lived in southampton for 15 years, this was by far the worst in terms of flooding. Couldn't leave the house yesterday." Mar 15, 10 7:07 PM

Bishop will vote yes on health care reform bill

I find it kind of funny that so many people here are supporting a bill (or law now) that you haven't read. Many of the important details have not been released.

From what i see (and that's just on the surface) is that this bill will cost taxpayers money, way too much money. More tax for families over 250k? Are you kidding? I don't make that much, but on LI that isn't a lot of money for a family.

I have insurance now, i hate it, it's too much money for what i get, but this health care bill will only worsen things. I will pay additional taxes for lazy people, off the books workers, etc. I don't want to pay for you dems to get healthcare, get your own damn care." Mar 22, 10 2:58 PM

My future voting will be totally along partly lines. Something i haven't done in the past. Seeing how the Democrats forced this "road to socialism" bill through the process, I must vote all republican, and will. November is just a start, then it's on to one term NObama.

Just wait to see what they do with immigration, this will be great too. So get ready lefties, your great life that our government has allowed will change for the worse. This is a sad day in American politics." Mar 23, 10 4:52 PM

And look where it is now. Going broke." Mar 24, 10 10:51 AM

President signs historic health care legislation into law with Bishop's support

I'll be more than happy to. I am one who never qualifies for any govt program even though i struggle on a daily basis. So,,,I'll be more than happy to send all of the nothing back. And, at the same time, they can keep taxing me to pay for the unemployed, welfare receipients. As a matter of fact, why don't they just drive up to my home in their escalade and i'll give it right to them." Mar 24, 10 11:42 AM

"pay something for the common good of your neighbors"?????? I'm sure you make more than me considering you were able to retire at 48, so would you mind sending me a check so i may spend more money in local businesses for the common good of my neighbors? Sounds stupid doesn't it?" Mar 24, 10 11:48 AM

Most of us posting here live here, we are all paying the rents or taxes. I'm assuming you don't make over 250k a year or you'd be up in arms having to share your wealth with your less fortunate neighbor because he/she won't get up off their tush and work for a living.

It's the democrats way to pay for the lazy people, so i expect to see you at the other fundraiser for the underemployed." Mar 24, 10 3:06 PM

Thank you, very well said." Mar 24, 10 3:08 PM

I work very hard for a living, and will never complain about the quality of my life. It's up to me to make it better, I don't expect my neighbors to give more to help me out. I don't expect my neighbors to pay for my healthcare, my food, my mortgage, my bills. Under this law, if i faulter, i don't need to worry, all my rich neighbors will be forced to bail me out. Thanks but no thanks." Mar 24, 10 3:12 PM

So Obama articulated to you that the way he plans to get us out of the economic crisis is to put us in a huge 1 trillion plus hole via healthcare. And you'll still vote for him again?.....wow, doesn't take much to get your vote." Mar 29, 10 1:26 PM

While i'm not for this healthcare for all, i think what you just wrote is false. While congress will still have their wonderful plan, i hear that Obama himself will enter the public option." Mar 29, 10 1:46 PM

If you think this public option will be less expensive than an employer sponsored program, you are due for a rude awakening." Mar 29, 10 3:44 PM
