Check out this report I just found on CNet:

"The federal government has demanded that major internet companies turn over users’ stored passwords", two sources told the respected tech website CNet.

So what exactly does this “escalation” — as CNet calls it — mean?

“If the government is able to determine a person’s password, which is typically stored in encrypted form, the credential could be used to log in to an account to peruse confidential correspondence or even impersonate the user,” the report says. “Obtaining it also would aid in deciphering encrypted devices in situations where passwords are reused.”

But it doesn’t end there. The government is not only requesting the passwords, but its also asking for algorithms and even security questions:

"Some of the government orders demand not only a user’s password but also the encryption algorithm and the so-called salt," according to a person familiar with the requests. "A salt is a random string of letters or numbers used to make it more difficult to reverse the encryption process and determine the original password. Other orders demand the secret question codes often associated with user accounts."

So now they know the name of your first dog." Jul 26, 13 10:51 AM

The San Diego County Democratic Party Central Committee voted 34-6 Thursday night to ask the city's first Democratic mayor in 20 years to leave office.
The women who came forward Thursday are a retired Navy rear admiral, a dean at San Diego State University, the head of the San Diego Ports Tenants Association and a prominent businesswoman.
At least he has good taste in the women he chooses to harass.

I wonder how long they intend to keep our private communications. I'd hate to have something I say privately in an email or phone call today come back to bite me in the butt 15 years later. Scarier is the fact that they may impersonate you. The implications are staggering. Watch, there will be a Utah-sized data center built every year so they don't have to delete anything. Humma Weiner worries me more than her do-nothing hubby Whitey Bulger. She and her family ties the Muslim Brotherhood, while she was at the right hand of former Secretary of State and probable presidential candidate Hillary, seems far more unsettling than some on-line pervert. She may need to "stand by her man" in an effort to "keep her fingers on the pulse."" Jul 29, 13 11:47 PM

Weiner, Spitzer, Filner, Sanford, et al remain relevant because they are amusing. Tabloid politics trumps honesty, integrity or qualifications. Inevitably, We the People will foot the bill for their mismanagement of government and unethical behavior. Weiner is still up to the same cr@p that caused him to resign. The Wall Street Journal says Weiner's lack of real remorse is characteristic of a sociopath. If these degenerates get elected, we all pay.
" Jul 30, 13 5:15 PM

A number of analysts have noted that it is extremely rare for Islamic women—particularly those whose families have ties to the Muslim Brotherhood—to marry non-Muslims like Weiner, who is Jewish. Indeed, Dr. Anwar Shoeb, the highest-ranking faculty authority at the prestigious College of Sharia and Islamic Studies in Kuwait, formally declared that Abedin's marriage to Weiner was “null and void” under the dictates of Sharia Law, which explicitly forbids matrimony between a Muslim woman and an "infidel"; in fact, Shoeb classified the Abedin-Weiner union as a form of “adultery.”" Jul 31, 13 12:15 AM

A New Jersey Appeals Court has ruled that both sides of a texting conversation which resulted in a car accident could be held liable. Me, inflammatory? Pot, meet Kettle.
A senior Syrian official on Monday issued a first direct warning that if attacked, his country would retaliate against Israel. Khalaf Muftah, a senior Baath Party official who used to serve as Syria’s assistant information minister, said in a radio interview that Damascus would consider Israel “behind the Western aggression and it will therefore come under fire. We have strategic weapons and we’re capable of responding,” he said. “Normally the strategic weapons are aimed at Israel.” Muftah concluded with a warning that “If the US or Israel make the mistake of taking advantage of the chemical issue… the region will go up in flames… that will affect security not only in the region but across the world.”
His words were echoed by Iranian officials, who on Monday shrugged off the threat of a US attack on its close ally Syria, but said that if such a strike were to take place, Israel would suffer. “The Americans are incapable of starting a new war in the region, because of their lacking economic capabilities and their lack of morale,” said Mohammad Reza Naqdi, the commander of the Republican Guards’ elite Basij force.
“No military attack will be waged against Syria,” said Hossein Sheikholeslam, a member of Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly. “Yet, if such an incident takes place, which is impossible, the Zionist regime will be the first victim of a military attack on Syria.”

Molon labe is a Greek phrase. Its English translation is often heard from pro-Second Amendment activists as a defense of the right to keep and bear arms. It began to appear on web sites in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The phrase has again gained popularity among supporters of the Second Amendment, as it has the connotation of a strong belief in the ideals of personal freedom and in the individual right to self-protection" Sep 8, 13 11:07 PM

Here's a good one: Florida's former Gov. Jeb Bush (R) is giving former SoS Hillary Clinton this year's Liberty Medal from the National Constitution Center. Not only that, but the award will be presented to Clinton on September 10th, the eve of the first anniversary of the terrorist attack on the United States mission in Benghazi that killed four Americans. Bush, a possible GOP hopeful in the 2016 presidential race, is chairman of the board of trustees of the National Constitution Center located in Philadelphia.
Kinda makes this award as meaningless as the Nobel "Peace" Prize. " Sep 10, 13 9:23 AM

Hampton Bays Vigil Calls For Renewed Push For Immigration Reform

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has released 2,837 convicted illegal criminal alien sex offenders back into American communities in order to comply with a Supreme Court decision authored by Clinton-appointed Justice Stephen Breyer, according to a new report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO).

The 2,837 sex offenders represented five percent of the 59,347 deportable illegal aliens that have been released from detention under the supervision of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to the GAO report, which was released Thursday.

“There are circumstances in which criminal aliens who have been ordered removed from the United States – including those convicted of a sex offense – cannot be removed,” the report states. “For example, a criminal alien may not be removed because the designated country will not accept the alien’s return.”

So, we are stuck with them. This is immigration reform in this administration at work." Sep 16, 13 10:17 PM

Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich has announced that illegal alien parents in the county will collect a projected $650 million in welfare benefits in 2013. The data was collected from the Department of Public Social Services. When you add the $550 million for public safety and nearly $500 million for healthcare, the total cost for illegal immigrants to county taxpayers exceeds $1.6 billion dollars a year. These costs do not even include the hundred$ of million$ of dollar$ spent annually for education.
Coming soon to a sanctuary county near you." Sep 17, 13 11:24 AM

No, Yaja, they should go to the back of the line. The United States OF America abides by the Rule of Law, which must govern the immigration process. Amongst the duties of the federal government in the Constitution is the duty to secure the national border. Thus background checks are done in order to ensure immigrants aren’t criminals or terrorists. Also, it must be proven that immigrants will utilize their right to migrate by working and that they won’t become a burden to other citizens. Overall, those who follow the law must be rewarded, and those who break it must abide the consequences.
This assumes, of course, an administration that follows the Rule of Law!" Sep 17, 13 10:42 PM

What I did, Phil, was to credit Justice Breyer with authoring the decision to release almost 3000 convicted alien sex offenders onto the streets of America. Clinton appointee or not, he be the author.

Some conservative appointed justices did agree, but the voice of dissent rings true. Justice Antonin Scalia (a Reagan appointee), writing for the minority, said: "Insofar as a claimed legal right to release into this country is concerned, an alien under final order of removal stands on an equal footing with an inadmissible alien at the threshold of entry: He has no such right."

Concurring, Justice Anthony Kennedy (another Reagan appointee), noted that "the authority to detain beyond the removal period is to protect the community, not to negotiate the aliens' return... An alien's admission to this country is conditioned upon compliance with our laws, and removal is the consequence of a breach of that understanding."

Justice Clarence Thomas (George H W Bush) and William Rehnquist (Reagan) also expressed dissension from Breyer's opinion.

The GAO report also revealed that large numbers of convicted alien sex offenders that ICE did in fact manage to deport from the country simply turned around and came back in- and committed yet another sex crime while inside the U.S. And it would appear our border will remain porous for the foreseeable future.

I just hope none of these guys end up in your neck of the woods, Phil." Sep 18, 13 12:29 AM

The government has never required all Americans to purchase any good or service. An individual mandate to purchase a particular product from a private party, with tax penalties to enforce it, is unprecedented and flies in the face of our founding principles. Nowhere in the Constitution is Congress given the power to mandate that an individual purchase a good or service and no decision of the Supreme Court justifies such a claim of power. Another 19 percent blamed both Republicans and Democrats, while 13 percent were unsure who to blame.
A CNN poll also released on Oct. 7 found that while 63 percent of Americans are angry at the GOP, 57 percent of Americans are angry at Democrats and 53 percent are angry at Obama. “Independents are equally angry at all sides, with 59% of Independents very or somewhat angry at the Democrats, six in 10 angry at the GOP, and 58% angry at Obama,” the CNN poll also found, showing a statistical tie.
