Is license law a keeper?

The Trustees have already allowed the Dogan Patent to be amended through the State Legislature, in changing their elections from Annual to Biennial, they also changed the number of trustees who serve from 12 to 5. By allowing this to occur a precedent has been set where by the State may alter the terms of the Dongan Patent, thereby making any right granted in the Patent subject to the State Legislature's interpretation." Apr 24, 10 5:12 PM

So far nothing extra in Attorneys fees, it has been handled thus far by Assistant Town Attorneys. This is as much about sending a message to Albany that LI and the east end in particular, are not to be viewed as revenue sources for the subsidization of other parts of NYS, as it is Trustee powers and rights. The later being very questionable due to previous modifications to their rights granted in the Patents." Apr 26, 10 2:21 PM

A medal? LOL That is his job, much the same as it is a fireman's job to save people from fires. We really have lowered our standards in this country, we give praised and reward for people doing what they are paid to do.... unbelievable. " Apr 26, 10 2:26 PM

Cost of office furniture included in state's bid for federal grant

The nerve of these gluttons, to include furniture while they are cutting back money going to the districts. These people are a perfect example of what is wrong with this country! We ned to eliminate this type of element from positions of authority." Apr 26, 10 2:35 PM

Rally held to support push for federal immigration reform

Talk about Un-American setyoufree, you have the nerve to criticize the don't tread on me phrase which was one of the calls for the revolution that paved the way for the first amendment which you use to bash the ideals which formed it! Talk about nothing constructive!

Reform is needed, we must keep in mind that not everyone who wants to immigrate here will be or should be able to. Most countries have requirements for eligibility for immigration, such as being able to contribute to the country. An open door policy is not sustainable or sensible. " May 6, 10 3:23 PM

I agree to sat deportation is logistically impossible is ridiculous, if we can provide them with medical care and schooling, we certainly could round them up and deport them.

@ setyoufree.... Plenty of jobs a "taken" by illegals that would be done by legal citizens if they were not here. An example would be the builder a friend of mine works for said why hire 1 american when I can get 3 illegals for the same price? Fortunately for my friend he is an electrician and he is not in the same danger as framers, tile guys, roofers etc...
I have another friend who owns a landscaping business, he only hires Ecuadorians, he used to hire Americans. A mutual friend lost his job selling cars a few years back and ask him if he could pick up a few hours a week, he was told "NO you will cost me more than my illegals"

I doubt I am the only person who has run into examples such as these! I am not saying every illegal takes a job from an American but many do!" May 6, 10 3:46 PM

Raciest and Barbaric? How you must lead a sheltered life! The law is neither, it is in accordance with the Federal Law which hasn't been properly enforced. I would be more worried if this problem is let to persist, as it increases tension between various peoples which could lead to racism and barbarianism." May 6, 10 3:59 PM

Amend the 14th Amendment " May 6, 10 4:02 PM

bigfresh makes a very good point, being anti illegal alien is not racist. The illegal aliens in this country come from all over the world, they can be from Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia or Central & South America. The later two making up the majority of illegal aliens in the last decade. What they all have in common is that they shouldn't be here regardless of Race, Religion or Nationality.
Why should their disregard of our immigration laws be tolerated?
Do we as citizens have the right to choose certain laws to disregard, than protest if the Government tries to enforce them?
Maybe we can ignore the law that says we have to pay income tax, I wonder how that would pan out, Oh never mind.... just ask Wesley Snipes!" May 6, 10 6:32 PM

Same comment different article spammer. People can be illegal when they are in a country that they are not a citizen of, do not have a Visa or have overstayed their Visa with no attempt to extend it. When they are present in this capacity, everything they do and everywhere they go.... they are illegal.

As for if they are sent back to their homes they will most likely live in extreme poverty.... this is unfortunate, but not our problem until their are no impoverished and starving citizens in our own country.

If my family is starving can I go rob some one to get money to feed them? Who decides what laws are acceptable to break, when one has to provide food for ones family?" May 6, 10 6:52 PM

It is neither anti American nor unconstitutional. As for usurping the authority of the Federal Government, wrong again it just provides the State a mechanism for determining wether or not someone is eligable to be turned over to the Feds, where the will enforce the law." May 6, 10 6:59 PM

It's definitely not a great night spot thats for sure, it attracts many crass undesirables to HB on the Fri. and Sat. nights it operates. the fact that the gas station across the street closes on Sat. 15 min before that place lets out is testament to their clientele.

The building is hardly worth saving, it seems restoration would be an unreasonable hardship to impose upon the owners. Let it go people! Most of the people who want it saved don't even know it's history and haven't lived out here too long themselves!" May 6, 10 7:15 PM

Shinnecock proxy has reached out to Nassau County executive about coliseum casino

That's just what we need all the revenue this will create to go into Nassau County. Maybe if Southampton Town had handled the Indians initial attempt at casino development in a less confrontational manner, the Shinnecock would be looking at sites within Suffolk county. The Westwoods property could've worked out and benefitted the town as well as the county. " May 7, 10 2:09 AM

AndersEn makes a very good point about the money flowing out of the country through Western Union. This highlights another part of the problem, many of these illegal aliens do not want to become citizens, they are here to make money and send it to their home countries.

Look to Marcelo Lucero who was murdered in Patchogue by the group of teens or at least by the one who stabbed him. He was here illegally, he had come on a Visa over 16 years ago. He just stayed, working two jobs and sending the vast majority of his money home to Ecuador. He didn't want citizenship, he was planning on returning to Ecuador to live the rest of his life. This is not what our grandparents and the other earlier immigrants came here to do. All the previous immigrants came here to live the American Dream, not to exploit America.

Deport them ALL. Not by ethnicity or race, but by lack of documentation. I don't care if they are Irish, Polish, Italian, Australian,French, German, Canadian or Latino send them back from whence they came. This is the law and it needs to be enforced.
I'm totally sick of hearing Government Agencies make excuses for why they can't do their jobs, right on down to this Town and it's inability to keep the books straight." May 10, 10 4:36 PM

US foreign aid isn't for the people of those countries it is for expanding our influence and control over the world. I have no problem with someone who LEGALLY come here pays INCOME tax, SS tax, FICA and medicare chooses to send their money home. It is theirs at that point, they have not cheated the system, so while I would rather see it spent in this country they have EARNED the right to do with it as they please.

As for Marcelo Lucero he would be alive today had he ran and not chose to confront that group of teens, poor choice on his part. He also took his belt off to use as a weapon in the fight, yes I said fight he did choose to fight. I would have ran my ass off rather than take on 6 or so people I know nothing about.
His legal status had nothing to do with the attack, they were looking for a latino, citizenship wouldn't have saved him, as I said running would have.
He was not working to ensure his mom had running water, he was building a huge house for her in Ecuador. Once again not the American Dream.
To bad he didn't have the enormous skill like me to use his brian and get out of a dangerous situation, instead of heading right into it. If he was in Ecuador where he should have been they couldn't have done that to him, just something to think about." May 10, 10 4:52 PM

Court orders trial for fishing license challenge

Excellent question fishy, it must have something to do with the inconsistent claim/defense of rights granted from the Patents. The Trustees and DEC also both claim jurisdiction over the building of docks and bulkheads, another possible point of contention." May 11, 10 9:17 PM

This as unpopular and politically incorrect as it is would be an extremely effective measure to stop the problem. We hear all the time... we are at war, the war on terror.... well what nation at war doesn't protect it's boarders? " May 11, 10 9:28 PM

You are partially right, the Dongan Patent doesn't cover ponds, lakes or canals dug in to private lands. The Trustees do have jurisdiction over all the ponds which were not in private ownership as of 1686 when the Patent was issued. This means most of the small ponds in Southampton and East Hampton Towns fall into this categoy.

If you were to read the Dongan Patent as I have, you would see that there is no differentiation between salt and fresh water bodies.

Protect minorities... yes, protect citizens.... yes, protect criminals that shouldn't be here in the first place NO! This is a perfect example of the abuse of our system that is endemic with those who don't have enough respect for our society to use the front door.
I really don't care that it is difficult to become a citizen... it should be, we can't just arbitrarily let anyone who wants to be here to come in. We definitely shouldn't reward those who have broken the law with an expedited path to citizenship. Plenty of people have done it the "hard way" by going through the proper channels. For those who want the short cut... they are not needed or welcome.
As for deportation... are you kidding, we can't? We can occupy an entire country of 30 million plus, but can't deport 10 million from here. We can.... rounding them up at their rallies and marches would be a good place to start! I say grab the ones carrying the flags of their country they are so proud of and send them there ASAP!
The comparison to the Jews in Germany is so off the mark, they were citizens and had the right to be there, these people are not and do not.... besides we aren't suggesting sending them to the gas chambers or an oven!" May 13, 10 10:26 PM
