Thiele drafts law for East Hampton school tax equity

I say centralize the school district. We have amazing resources already in place, but duplicated between school districts. There are too many administrators and not enough opportunities for the kids. Springs has ample land, EH does not. EH has the high school, Springs, Montauk and Amagansett do not.

For now, lets clear out the school boards and start fresh with people that can get along. Obviously the Springs school board and the EH school board are no longer making an effort to get along. Thus the quote from and EH school board member regarding Springs, "It's not our problem."...Nice! Great to see your emotions are controlling decisions!

How about Ray Guilatteri making $235,000 per year plus a vehicle???

How about the High School building a giant room that all the seniors must be in for their lunch period??

Wake up people, EH is already wasting money on nonsense. Lets centralize and put people in charge that will no longer waste anyones money. Everything would even out and the kids would benefit, and by the way, isn't that whats important? " Mar 25, 10 8:57 AM

A push for library service in Springs

Are you kidding? The EH library is just fine, drive the 6 minutes." Mar 25, 10 8:59 AM

Town code is easy, enforcement is hard

Years ago the town made a huge mistake. They allowed residential areas to be built in places where commercial areas should have been built. Like Fort Pond Blvd, the area around the airport, etc. Now we have a huge lack of commercial space so we are forced to run our businesses out of our homes. I feel for the woman on Central Ave, but you should have done more reasearch about your potential neighbors before buying." Mar 25, 10 9:08 AM

A push for library service in Springs

I think we are debating this because we are drowning in taxes and the last thing we need is for another municipal entity to add more. It's not like the EH library is lacking or that it is far away. There is no way for us to build a new library in Springs and not increase our taxes. " Mar 27, 10 1:13 PM

Seven towns to sue MTA over payroll tax

As a small business owner I want everyone to know that this tax hurts. The people that are actually using the trains are not being taxed, the business owners are. How is this fair? It's not like here in East Hampton my employees are taking the train!" Mar 30, 10 10:56 PM

East Hampton plans to eliminate leaf pickup, sell assets

I for one will be very disappointed with the elimination of leaf pickup. How will people with no trucks get the leaves to the dump? Do you have to buy a $70 dump sticker? Because I don't have a dump sticker, I use a service to pick up my garbage. I think $500,000 is a small price to pay to keep our neighborhoods clean. Also, I know some of the workers are doing community service. Thats not costing us anything. Lets cut somewhere else. I think I read that Scott King has already cut from his budget. He has to draw a line in the sand somewhere." Apr 3, 10 4:45 PM

Wilkinson concedes that dock sale is off the table

The Maidstone Gun Club leases land from the Town. A perfect union. Why not explore this idea with the fishermen? They can form a charter and for say a very smal fee they can lease the docks, however, they must maintain them. This way they can keep using the docks, but the maintanance does not cost the taxpayers, only the fishermen using them.

What are the other lands they are considering selling? I can imagine they can come up with land somewhere that will not have such a negative effect on the community.

Sportsmen Seek Voice Of Their Own

My husband is not driven by tradition but instinct....I don't think he could live a happy, normal life if he wasn't hunting. I think he has a natural drive to provide food for his family. No different than many men providing financially for their family. He is a hunter and gatherer in an oldfashioned tradtiion, hunting to put food on the table, many men are hunter and gathereres in a modern tradition of earning money to buy meat in a store, puting food on the table. I think that hunting is a natural, human pursuit.

Thank God for the Sportsman Alliance. They are fighting for what many believe, we should be able to put food on our table, by means that have served generations. I will be joining that fight. What is sad is that it is a fight. I don't tell these people that being a vegetarian is wrong, why should they tell me that my husband being a natural man and hunting is wrong?" Feb 20, 11 5:42 PM

Town To Hold Auction On Impounded Cars

Village to hold auction, not Town. You would think you would know the difference." Feb 20, 11 5:45 PM

Springs Superintendent Responds To Teacher Layoff Rumors

I currently have one child in Springs School and one who graduated from Springs and is in the EH High School. For the last 12 years that I have had children in Springs School I have not witnessed one irresponsible expenditure. Grades 1-8 don't even have a decent playground. There are several factors contributing to our outrageous property taxes. One is illegals, one is illegal apartments, and one big one is the HIgh School. I went to see a high school guidance counselor the other day. I entered the new office. WOW! The size of the office is comparable to two classrooms in Springs. And there were two secretaries in there. Then I walked down a hallway and entered the guidance wing. WOW! Another huge office with only one secreatary. Walked down another hallway and WOW! Many large offices off that hallway. So, my experience leads me to believe as taxpayes, we must focus on combining our school districts and putting more pressure on EHT to take care of the illegal apartments. Not take away our children's highly educated and well respected teachers." Mar 13, 11 4:29 PM

You are right, the Federal Government is to blame. I don't know how we get them to fix it." Mar 13, 11 7:10 PM

Springs Families Dropped From School Bus Route

I am one of the parents that lost the bus. If it were safe for my son to cross Springs Fireplace Road I would have no problem with him walking. But it is entirely too dangerous. Woodbine Drive intersects with Springs Fireplace Road on a curve which makes it difficult to see and therefore I want him to take the bus." Aug 19, 11 12:57 PM
