Fifty people run from Red Creek Park to Southampton for the Feast of Guadalupe

Editor, can't you please remove the comment by INS? The runners were respecting a lovely tradition, and his comment is ugly, mean, and hurtful." Dec 18, 09 2:11 AM

Southampton Town Board candidate Fleming receives Independence endorsement

Does Ms. Fleming have it in her to stand up and say "no" to overpaid pension-eligible cops, or will she vote with Anna? Of course, it might not matter since the opposition is a cop himself. Will Ms. Fleming consider the needs of all Town residents above the interests of the parties who are backing her now? Would love to see those questions put to her in an interview, Mr. Shaw." Southampton Town Trustees trade sand for assistance

Does the sand used to build dunes in front of their "wealthy clients’ homes" in any way lilmit access of the rest of us? Are the Trustees watching carefully to ensure that our right of "pass and repass" (Dongan Patent) is being honored when this work is done?" Jan 19, 10 10:23 AM

Actually, Bobbie is without a doubt the best server on the East End. Always friendly, always alert, always thoughtful. And it's a big plus that Sunwaters' food is great!" Feb 25, 10 8:52 PM

Southampton Village building inspector fell short on certification hours

Ms. Konrad's ugly attempt to have Jon Foster fired because she can't get her way has drawn criticism, so she cries "ad feminam" and calls her critics "illiterate." Konrad needs to realize that change is not always popular when it happens. Some people saw her own community as a lower-class, up-island, (horrors!) "development" that had no business in the Village when it was built. They got over it, and so should she." Mar 23, 10 12:17 PM

Forum on proposed Tuckahoe shopping complex planned for June 1

Yes, there are lots of vacant stores along 39, but unless traffic lights are installed at each curb cut, ingress and egress can be dangerous when there is traffic. That could be why so many are vacant." Jun 2, 10 8:14 AM

We have the worst ever already with Waldbaum's. Any other store would be an improvement." Jun 2, 10 5:31 PM

Calabro casino talks progress

From the Seventh Generation Fund site. "...Great Law of Peace of the Haudenosaunee (Six Nations Iroquois Confederacy) which mandates that chiefs consider the impact of their decisions on the seventh generation yet to come." Let's all hope that this belief is as strong in the eyes of tribal leaders as the glitter of casino lights seems to be." Jun 19, 10 9:42 PM

Rumor about attack in village is debunked by police

Look up (Federal) Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification. The form, which has been around since the late 1980s, requires positive identification to prove eligibility to work in the US. It must be completed for each employee hired and kept updated. The problem is that it does not have to be filed anywhere except the employer's desk drawer, where it sits until Homeland Security asks to see it. They never do. We don't need new laws. We just need to enforce the laws we do have. If employers are penalized enough - maybe $10,000 for even the first violation - they might be more careful about who they hire." Jul 3, 10 1:41 PM

Southampton Town planner defends Tuckahoe planned development district

This discussion wouldn't even be taking place if Waldbaum's would clean up its act and if the Village would allow just one casual, reasonably-priced, family restaurant to move in." Jul 17, 10 8:19 AM

Michael Lohan charged with harassing fiancee Kate Major at Water Mill home

He kicked her in the face and the charge is harrassment? Isn't that assault?" Jul 22, 10 6:21 PM

One thing this is doing in the Press is pointing out that if you have the right connections in town, you are charged with a much lesser offence than most of us would get for turning over a chair, then kicking a person in the face. Then a silly restraining order, and the article oh-so-quickly becomes difficult to find on the Press site." Jul 23, 10 6:38 PM

Arts Harvest Southampton faces backlash from local merchants

Here's where this thing went wrong - it tried to be a tony "Hamptons" event. Next time, include some artists at work, carvers, jugglers, wandering musicians, and anyone else who wants to get into the spirit. And food. Lots of food. Not some oh-so-chic dinner for a select few. Ask our local restaurants to put out stands with real, honest local food - sausages, burgers, chowder, roast corn, pumpkin pie. Make this thing fun!

And while you're at it, Village leaders, lighten up on the Farmer's Market. It's a great idea, but who can afford it? Loosen up your rules. Not everything needs to be organic this or artisanal that. Scouts selling cookies at a card table (no tent!!!), or the basketball team bake sale should be welcome, too. Let more variety in, make it fun, too, and more people will come.

Bottom line, Village leaders, get your noses out of the air. Lean down and smell the chowder. Not everyone lives in the estate area.
