Kametler will not seek re-election in Westhampton Beach; Palmer throws hat in the ring

This is the most logical decision he has made since he took office. Westhampton Beach Village Trustees Kametler, Birk and Tucker need to resign. Their dismal performace has been the laugh of the East End." Apr 27, 10 8:32 PM

Mayor Teller: Another Westhampton Beach police officer faces disciplinary charges

Sjd, you have no clue what your asking for. Ask Greenport !! They sued trying to get their police department back a month after the department was disbanded. WHB needs to deal with the issues. You need a board that lets the Chief of Police do his job and maybe hiring a CHief from outside WHB is needed. . " May 7, 10 3:39 PM

Westhampton Beach detective suspended, faces disciplinary hearing

sjjd, if you seem to have all the answers, than put your name in for a Village Board position. If you got your wish, taxes would decrease only slightly. Look at the Village of Sagaponack, 2.1 million for a part time sector car. And look at Greenports history, a month after they disbanded the PD, they sued Southold Town trying to get it back. The Village crime went through the roof and property values droped like a rock. BUT, sjd you have all the answers. Try fixing the problem, not making the problem worse. " May 20, 10 8:54 PM

Southampton Town supervisor floats cop consolidation plan

LOL, HAHAHA Trying to get the Village tax payers to fund the wreck of a Town Police. The Village Police Departements have home role and they like their local Village Police Departments. (Private security) And Frank, your right, the Village of Quogue is a very well run organization that would laugh at Anna's proposal. She's nervous anyway because North Haven and Sagaponack Villages are tired of Southampton Town and looking to employ their own Police Force. Nice try Anna, try downsizing Town Hall. Throne-Holst delivers second State of the Town address

Anna, if you do your research, you will find that your land management staff is 3 times the size than it was 15 years ago and takes in nearly one half of the permits. You do the math. DOWN SIZE Land management. " Aug 8, 10 10:58 AM

Police consolidation comes up at Westhampton Beach meeting

The only thing Thorn-Holst is trying to do is balance her Town Police Budget on the backs of the Village Residents. I attended one of her meetings and there is no cost savings for giving up a Village PD for the Town PD coverage. And I say coverage lightly. It took a police officer 1 1/2 hrs to arrive at my friends house when her alarm went off. I get a cop within 3 minutes when I need them in my Village. It makes a big difference when your having a medical problem as well. Try to balance your budget somewheres else Anna. " Sep 15, 10 12:48 AM

Southampton Town bracing for stingy 2011 budget

Bigfresh, your right. My husband is a local electrician who works inside and outside the Town area. When he is forced to use the Towns Building Department Electrical Inspectors, it takes two weeks for an appointment when a local private agency takes appointments within 24 hours. It costs my husband three times the price for inspections using the Towns Inspectors. They need to cut costs in Land Management and use private agencies so the contractors and tax payers are not subject to these excessive fees. But no !! They would taher raise taxes. UNREAL !!" Throne-Holst: No layoffs in 2011 tentative budget

ATH doesn't get it. We are all hurting out here. And she still doesn't downsize government and raises taxes anyway. The Electrical Inspectors need to go especially when there are private agencies that can do the same job for alot less cost to the homeowners. SAME OLD TOWN HALL " Oct 12, 10 8:15 AM

East Hampton Town's tentative budget 11 percent less than 2010

Obbservant, your right on target. The Southampton tax payers are hurting and ATH still keeps Town Hall the same size and looks to raise taxes again. I know she was shown that she could reduce all three electrical inspectors from the building department and have private electrical inspection agenies perform the same jobs for alot less. Yet she still keeps them all on the backs of the tax payers. Same old Southampton Politics. Looks like a good start for East Hampton. " Oct 12, 10 8:30 AM

Tentative Budget Slated For Preliminary Status

Turkey Bridge, You can add to your "Whats not to like" the fact that her electrical department in the Building Department have fees that are three times the fees of private agencies that provide the same services for other towns. It takes weeks to get an inspection from the builkding department where private agencies can take up to two days for inspections. Yet, this division of the Building Department has shown a 100,000 deficit for 2009 and still no layoffs or changes. We are an electrical familiy from Southampton thats starving to death and ATH just doesn't get it. Every little bit counts. " Oct 20, 10 3:56 PM

Southampton Town Department Heads Raise Issues With Preliminary 2011 Budget

Why not layoffs !! Riverhead and East Hampton made lay offs and have lowered their proposed spending for 2011. Southampton Town has alot of duplication of services partically in Land Management. This board needs to lower spending and lower taxes. " Nov 13, 10 12:07 PM

Nature, take a closer look around Land Management. We are a second generation elecrtcial family from Southampton and there are Private Electrical Inspection Agencies around the County that provide outstanding services to other Towns and Villages. Lets compare; we wired a home in SHV two years ago, the permit fee was nearly 1500.00, it expired after 1 year, it cost another fee to renew it. It took weeks to call for an appointment as well. Private agencies that also inspect for East Hampton, Brookhaven, Islip, Babylon and so on provide the same service 680.00 for the same permit. The permit does expire and you can have an inspector on site with a day or two of the request. The're about 9 companies around the county and each inspector are VERY HIGHLY certified and qualified. I looked at the 2010 budget for Land Management, Electrical shows a substainial loss in revenue that the tax payers are footing the bill for. Its a no brainer, Southampton needs to go back to private inspections to relieve the burden from the tax payers. If the press is watching (or reading), you should reach out to these agencies for a story. I'll provide the numbers if anyone is interested. " Nov 14, 10 6:43 PM

Building Revenues Rebounding In Southampton Town

Mr Malone, please get ride of the 3 electrical inspectors that the tax payers are footing the bill for so we can afford to file electrical permits again. Your permit fees are killing us. We only file for permits when we have too because we can't afford your rediculous fees . The Private agencies around Suffolk do a better job anyway. " Feb 24, 11 3:23 PM

Southampton Town Will Need To Come Up With Millions To Meet Tax Cap Next Year

Really, try being a contractor in Southampton Town, cut the fat Land Management Department and the Electrical Department. The rest of the townships have private electrical inspection agencies that do a great job and don't cost the tax payers any money unless they need them. Soutahmpton Town has inspectors for everything. Look around in other Townships. Their not having the problems that Southampton are having. The media needs to start doing their homework if our politicians aren't. " Jul 18, 11 10:20 PM

Southampton Supervisor Unveils Budget: Spending Stable, Consolidations Continue

Unbelievable, there are still many areas to cut at Town Hall. Land management to be exact ! Their are several aspects of that department that can be privatized and not a taxpayer burden. Yet the Supervisor chooses to raise taxes and pat herself on her back. The press needs to do some research and they will find real saving in the budget. " Sep 27, 12 2:25 PM
