Southampton Town Settles Discrimination Charges With Officer

Sounds like he wasn't selected for a choice assignment - so he filed a complaint about what sounds like locker room nut busting found on any job- and now he gets BOTH of the choice assignments. Way to play the system bud!" Mar 8, 13 10:38 PM

UPDATE: Top Cops Dispute Charges That Street Crime Unit Office Was Strewn With Drugs

It appears that Mr Wilson is going to make an excellent witness for the plaintiff when all these released drug addicts sue the town. Thanks Bill !!" Mar 14, 13 2:30 PM

Mr Wilson is not a victim here. He brought his concerns to the town board, and is now mad that the issue was not resolved to his liking. Whether you agree with him or not is not my point. What I am saying is that he should not be making statements to the public about how any officer could pick up drugs and drop them in a motorists car and say "oh look a crack pipe".

This opens the door for every defense attorney defending EVERY person arrested for EVERY drug offense made by ANY police officer in this town to claim that the evidence was planted. After all , even the Chief of Police says this can easily be done. If I were a defense attny I would call Mr Wilson as a defense witness." Mar 15, 13 4:53 PM

WHOA!!! I have no idea who Mr Keith is and I have not seen his article- I rarely buy the actual paper- The only horse I have in this race is as a taxpayer and town resident.

OU812- again you miss my point. I'm certainly not defending the police dept sloppy procedures- however Mr Wilson states that he DID address the problem and took corrective action in Jan 2012, over a year ago. THAT is when I would expect public disclosure. Him spouting to the press now reeks of spite- he has gone too far IMO , making speculations and inuendos (sp?) which are making the situation worse.

As far as Mr Keith goes I'm going to buy the paper because now Im curious- but I'll say this- if I could get the paper to publish a whole page of my rants I wouldn't be pecking away here!! LOL " Mar 16, 13 7:31 AM

Well I read the article and yes there is some similarity of opinion; however the comparison ends there. Mr Keith is a published author and college professor- and I assure you I am neither of those. As to the e-mail-- RIP Capt Phil Harris FV Cornelia Marie " Mar 17, 13 6:29 AM

UPDATE: Sickles Returns To Duty; PBA Blasts Board Members, GOP For Making Him A 'Scapegoat'

Yeah but . . . . . the police costs account for more that 30 % of the total town yearly budget" Mar 26, 13 7:52 PM

My point being police costs on long island - the highest in the country- are too high. The town would be able to provide much more service in other areas if these costs were lowered. DUH" Mar 27, 13 7:34 AM

First of all police salaries in Nass and Suff are the highest in the country. Let me try to give you a simpler analogy- The library taxes are a very small portion of our overall tax bill right? So it would be okay if say the Westhampton library decided to pay all the librarians $150,000 a year and spent nothing on books, computers, childrens programs, etc? After all- you pay so little for library tax so who cares.

" Mar 28, 13 5:52 AM

No- I'm not saying that- the point is - again- that salaries should not be determined based on the percentage of the residents tax bill funding the employees department.
And Southampton town is NOT a "major metroploitan area" , the crime statistics are phenominally lower here than in any of the cities you named. And if the salaries are the highest here, how are they "comparable" to every other area?? They are either higher or comparable- can't be both.

You are obvioulsly a cop or a spouse and I don't blame you for trying to get the highest possible salary, and I respect the job you do, however there is no way we can justify $100,000 (and up) salaries plus paid benefits plus 20 yr retirement anymore. Sorry ! " Mar 29, 13 8:02 PM

Sag Harbor Adopts $8.78 Million Budget, Lays Off Police Officer Of The Year

Will be interesting to see how the contract negotiations work out; as well as the Town PD new contract being negotiated now. Raises across the board, or reductions to save jobs?" Apr 21, 13 6:18 AM

it seems the only requirement to being an elected official around here is to be a lawyer. And since anyone who can read can become a lawyer (witness you can't swing a dead cat in this country without hitting a lawyer), thats not much of a qualification. Any blue collar workers or small business owners out there interested in running for office??" Apr 25, 13 9:06 PM

Sex Offenders Challenge Town, County and State Restrictions On Where They Can Live

And do you know what the "life of the sentence" is for all these people? Parole, probation, release conditions? I doubt it. Maybe you can rent rooms to them in your house - they can babysit your kids for free. Idiot. Actually now that I think about it you're probably one of their lawyers " Apr 29, 13 5:40 PM

Lets see--- you are a new poster who appeared here the day this story came out, you're from up island, and you're defending sex offenders. YEP definately one of their useless lawyers. You and your "clients" are a waste of good oxygen." May 1, 13 6:18 AM

Gregor Offers Conciliation On Cromers Parking Lot

If he was allowed to do his job he would have had this project done a year ago. But instead he must battle the town board, who, as usual, kowtows to a small group of local residents. Whenever anything is proposed in this town there is a storm of protest from small groups who live in the immediate area- they fill thye board room and squawk away and the board panders to them.

Message to the board: You have to break some eggs to make an omelet. Make a decision that is in the best interests of the town in its entirety, which in this case is obviously to fix this road, and stop fretting about losing a few votes" May 9, 13 5:37 AM

Maybe we should just appoint a king and be done with it. Sort of like a Mel Brooks kind of guy " May 9, 13 3:56 PM

Southampton Town Police Logged Long Hours Following Sandy

Certain aspects of "working conditions" are covered under state and federal law ie safety issues, length of work week etc. As far as pay is concerned the only statute is the minumum wage- there is nothing which guarantees pay rates comparable to surrounding jurisdictions ( witness the wide disparities in pay from town to town for other civil service titles)

Contract arbitrators use comparisons with surrounding areas but there is no law requiring comparable pay levels. nice try BLANK" May 11, 13 8:27 PM

I'm not sure if this is what HHH is referring to but I remember maybe 10 years ago a major metropolitan police dept (I think it was either Boston or New York City) reduced the starting pay for its officers to $25,000/year.

Nice bluff with the Taylor Law , Blank, as usual HHH called it. Swing and a Miss!!!" May 12, 13 9:34 PM
