Saks Fifth Avenue closes Southampton store this past weekend; Water Mill's Citarella also closed

Bruce, I shop at BJ's when I happen to be in Riverhead too. But you should realize that the distinction you make is between mass merchant's and Mom & Pop's. No independent grocer can even buy butter wholesale for less than $2 a pound. That's why they need to try to compete by selling better quality and specialized product instead, and by offering better service (at least you get a bag in Sag Harbor). But since we've snubbed them anyway, they've been forced to cater only to the wealthy snobs. We sold out our villages to the rich. It's not the poor small business owner's fault. So if you like route 58 so much, move to Riverhead!" Oct 9, 10 11:22 PM
