East Hampton Village Board Halts Change Of Zone Review For Ron Perelman's 'The Creeks'

Pereleman's annual income is far larger than East Hampton's annual budget. He'll spend whatever is necessary lining the pockets of our good local attorneys until the village simply gives up and grants him his C of Os. This is nothing but a small annoyance for him. You really think he's worried about building permits???" Jun 20, 17 11:31 AM

UPDATE: Power Restored In Southampton Village Tuesday

I think a bill to the guilty parties should do the trick. Loss of business, loss of enjoyment, potential risks to life, utility workers earning triple overtime on the 4th of July holiday...I bet that bill for one little selfish balloon owner's irresponsibility would be quite a bit more than they might expect and would serve as a deterrent in the future as well." Venesina Family Sells Iconic Sag Harbor Restaurant Conca D'Oro To Owners Of LT Burger

Like LT Burger but with pizza? So.... prices double?
" Jul 6, 17 6:42 PM

Really? I just looked through my comments and I can't find anywhere that I have ever complained about prices. I agree that we were lucky to such a long run with Venesina family, and I'm sad to see it change hands. We'll see after they reopen if I'm right about the price increase." Jul 10, 17 9:49 PM

UPDATE: Publick House Will Reopen Friday Night

Perhaps part of the financial hardship has to do with the Publick House's recent purchase of Crooked Ladder Brewing in Riverhead? There was an article about that pending purchase right here in this paper back in March.

Southampton Democrats Bring Fred Havemeyer To Court Over His Petition To Run For Supervisor

I'll go out on a limb here and guess they aren't going to court with only rumors as evidence." Aug 4, 17 2:21 PM

Republican and Democratic election commissioners ruled unanimously that 362 of the 699 signatures filed by backers of Havemeyer were not legitimate. He's out.

Board Of Elections Boots Havemeyer From September Democratic Primary Ballot

His petitions were misleading and additionally contained signatures that didn't belong to registered Democrats. All of the other candidates were able to come up with 500 certified signatures. Havemeyer did not.

Do all of you critical of the Board of Elections ruling want them to suspend the rules for Mr. Havemeyer? It seems like the detractors here are the same crowd who are constantly saying that Trump won so get over it." Aug 8, 17 2:24 PM

Hospital's 'No Tipping' Policy Is Unfair, Says Parking Valet

Any hospital I've been to does not allow valet tips. The valet service, in this case, is a necessity due to lack of parking spaces. The no tipping policy is in place because the hospital is not a luxury service provider and many patients/families/visitors may not be able to afford to tip, especially when they need to visit frequently. Allowing tips will create an expectation of gratuities from all and will likely result in preferential treatment for those who can afford to tip. The valets accepted the job knowing the terms and the hospital should stand it's ground." Aug 16, 17 10:48 PM

Paddle Diva Clashes With East Hampton Town Officials Again Over Operation Of Springs Paddleboard Business

Not anti-business or harassment. The rules need to be followed and cannot be selectively enforced. The village was wrong last year and due process protected Paddle Diva's rights to operate without a change of use.
How hard is it for someone who runs a paddle board business to find out what the laws are regarding beach use? The proprietor explained she has had the permit in previous years. Isn't it clear that the beaches are owned by the trustees, not the marinas?" Sep 2, 17 11:16 PM

Summer Of Uber Deals Painful Blow To Taxi Industry

Wow! 7 comments on 27East where all those posting are in agreement (and no mention of Trump!).
The local taxi companies created a situation that was doomed to crash and burn once they faced free market competition. The writing has been on the wall for several years and the local companies had a brief reprieve (during which they continued to gouge) thanks to town regulations. Anyone who has needed a taxi on the East End has been paying exorbitant rates for slow service in junky cars for a long, long time.

Nearly all businesses compete against national (and international) companies. There are few businesses who are not impacted by competition from any number of chain stores, e-tailers, national franchises, etc. The taxi co.s stayed in business thanks to local governments protecting them from competition. I do wish someone would step in and do that for my business!" Sep 5, 17 2:18 PM

Paddle Diva Clashes With East Hampton Town Officials Again Over Operation Of Springs Paddleboard Business

They expected her to get the required permit. Just like the town expects restaurants to be certified by the Dept. of Health and the SLA, etc. When the town grants a C of O they don't walk you through whatever other permits you might need for your business, but they will fine you (or worse) if you are not fully compliant." Summer Of Uber Deals Painful Blow To Taxi Industry

You are most likely correct. Assembly lines are run far more efficiently by robots, AI computers diagnose illnesses better than doctors and one day most cars will be self-driving. Innovation is nothing new. Technology has been changing the world since the invention of the wheel. As previously noted above: "Adapt or die."" Sep 7, 17 12:02 AM

Court Dismisses Suit Against Bowling Alley At East Hampton Indoor Tennis

"Not everyone is fortunate enough however to pay to park at a beach or take the time to take their kids to the beach."

I'd be willing to bet that three games + shoe rental every few weeks will cost as much as a beach sticker. Dropping your kids at the beach (which is free BTW) or the bowling alley probably takes about the same amount of time...

Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman To Leave Independence Party, Join Democrats

"According to a report by Open Secrets and Trace, the NRA gave $30.3 million to Trump's campaign. A month before the election, NBC reported that $9.6 million (of the then-$21 million contribution) had been spent on ads and spreading a pro-Trump message, while the majority — $12 million — had been spent towards attacking his opponent Hillary Clinton, the most the NRA has ever spent on an election in history." from bustle dot com
