Swan rescue in Noyac

An adult swan flying over Noyack Road at 7:30 a.m. Monday near Trout Pond got its wing caught on a tree branch and was stuck for nearly three hours. The Wildlife Rescue Center of the Hamptons arrived and enlisted the help of SavATree to free the swan from the tree. The swan was taken to the Wildlife Rescue Center in Hampton Bays for evaluation.

Jim Hunter, a Wildlife Rescue Center volunteer, said the swan had to be put down because its injuries were too severe, but it was saved from the starving death it would have suffered if it were left in the tree.
