Southampton Trustess String Curtain On Mill Pond

The Southampton Town Trustees string a synthetic curtain at the mouth of a narrow creek at the northwest corner of Mill Pond on Thursday morning in preparation for a test of a chemical compound that the Trustees hope will help clear the pond's algae-choked waters. The curtain is intended to prevent the chemical, Phoslock, from spreading into the rest of the pond during the test application. The test will take place in mid-October. If deemed successful, the Trustees are considering a broader application of Phoslock in the pond to improve water quality. DANA SHAW PHOTOS
